I am about to post a deprecation of SystemVersion>>version: to 1.2 but once i have made my changes i see something odd in MC browser: dirty packages * System (System-StephaneDucasse.6) * System-Support (System-Support-StephaneDucasse.317) Stef, have you started to publish System as a whole? did you mean to? My changes therefore hit two packages. System is still packaged in 1.2 at its sub-level of ~20 packages. thanks, Mike

A little while ago, I mentioned that background windows do not show their selections. This was in the win2k theme and with #fadeBackgroundWindows active. Turning off the latter "fixes" it. It would be better to fade the selections than to suppress them entirely.

Is OSProcess running in Pharo, and what is the magic incantation to call an external program, batch file, etc... in Windows? I seem to recall something like: OSProcess thisOSProcess command: 'dosomething.exe' But that doesn't seem to currently be working for me... Thank you, Rob

[Pharo-project] What does it take to implement tail-call optimization?

Hello Pharo: What would it take to implement tail-call optimization? My goal is to have an Erlang-like framework, which allows to port existing Erlang code as straight forward as possible. But this requires to have tail-call optimization, since Erlang provides no loops. However, I am not going for implementing the whole language and all its semantics, but only the basics I am interested in. So, a possible solution would also be a pragma/hint to the compiler to apply the optimization. Has anyone done something like this before, or has some hints where to start digging? I have made a few updates to OSProcess and CommandShell that I hope will be useful for Pharo: On SqueakSource, I repackaged both OSProcess and CommandShell into finer-grained package naming. Tests-OSProcess and Tests-CommandShell become OSProcess-Tests and CommandShell-Tests to avoid package name conflicts with Pharo and Squeak. The rest of the former OSProcess and CommandShell are split out into sub-packages to support this, and also to make it possible avoid loading portions of the package that are not required (e.g. in Pharo, do not load MVC portions of CommandShell). I updated ConfigurationOfOSProcess in SqS/MetacelloRespository to load OSProcess from the new package structure. This will also load a number of updates that make things work properly on Pharo. On a Unix/Linux platform, all tests should be green (I am not sure of the status on OS X). I have not yet tried to do a ConfigurationOfCommandShell, but if you use OSProcess and want to also use PipeableOSProcess from the CommandShell package (but are not interested in the rest of CommandShell), you can load ConfigurationOfOSProcess, then use a Monticello browser to load just package CommandShell-Piping from the CommandShell project on SqueakSource. This is my first attempt to do anything with Metacello, so any fixes or corrections will be appreciated. I just noticed that the semantic of Collection>>ifNotEmpty: has changed in subtle ways between Pharo 1.0 and 1.1 In 1.0 Collection>>ifNotEmpty: aBlock "Evaluate the given block unless the receiver is empty. If the block has an argument, eval with the receiver as its argument, but it might be better to use ifNotEmptyDo: to make the code easier to understand" ^self isEmpty ifFalse: [aBlock valueWithPossibleArgument: self]. -----> it returns nil if collection is empty in 1.1 Collection>>ifNotEmpty: aBlock "Evaluate the given block unless the receiver is empty. If you load Shout-lr.84 and ShoutTests-tween.9 from http://www.squeaksource.com/shout and run the testNumbers it will in: s := 'x 16r-d'. types := self tokenTypesIn: s. tokens := self tokensIn: s. self assert: types = #(patternUnary number unary). self assert: tokens = #('x' '16r-' 'd'). because types is #(#patternUnary #number) and in addition, tokens is #('x' '16r-d') I have no idea about this. Ok....I finally take an hour and fix all the Nile tests in Pharo 1.1. They are now all green. While doing this, I have removed all (or all I saw) from uniClasses in Nile. It would be very cool if someone from Nile can check my latests commits in the repository. When loading a package with class definitions containing a trait composition like ClassX uses: TraitY - {#selector}, the composition is lost in the image. It seems closely related to previous issues 2477 and 2148 But I am not sure if this is the same bug reappearing or a variant. To reproduce: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MooseAlgos'; package: 'Moose-Algos-Graph'; package: 'Moose-Tests-Algos-Graph'; load Run tests in Moose-Tests-Algos-Graph: you should have 3 failures and 4 errors, all due to the missing trait composition in some classes. After loading, you can make a diff changes in monticello, it will highlight the package as dirty and show you the lost trait compositions in two classes: MOGraphNode subclass: #MABfsNode uses: MATEdgeNode - {#previousEdges. #from:edge:} instanceVariableNames: 'nextEdges firstDepth' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'Moose-Algos-Graph' MODisjointSetNode subclass: #MANextNode uses: MATNodeNode - {#from:. #previousNodes} instanceVariableNames: 'nextNodes' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'Moose-Algos-Graph' The problem has been reproduced in 11383 and 11400 RC2. -- Simon

Keeping MIT for the framework would also help to reuse part of your code in Pharo itself or use the UI builder as part of special Pharo distributions. I have a good [rough draft] start on very detailed (too detailed?) steps to properly install Cygwin and build the Cog VM on Windows. I just need to add preparing the image for first time use, etc...: http://book.pharo-project.org/book/Virtual-Machine/Building/BuildVMOnWindow… (I haven't started editing/revising yet). Anyway, if anyone could help me properly position my two topics, "Cog VM" and "Traditional (Squeak) VM" underneath "The MS-Windows way," I would greatly appreciated it. Although they are subsections, they are fully "unindented" like a chapter in the table of contents... Hi guys, We were waiting that inria lets run a webdav server to host all the pharo repositories and there were some concerns about security for the inbox and this could be solved but it seems that it will take ages Now we need to have a pharo stable squeak source. So I would like to know if you have idea of were we could get a webdav server hosted. Stef
