Based at the beginning on Lisp and Simula, it was one of the first programming language to use a bitmap user-interface and an integrated development environment (IDE). Smalltalk has been a great influence in the development of many programming languages, including Objective-C, Java and Ruby. Many innovations in software engineering in the nineties also come from the Smalltalk community, such as Design Patterns, test-driven approach, agile software development like Extreme Programming (XP) and code refactoring. Pharo is a new open-source Smalltalk (under a MIT licence). Pharo's objective is to provide a clean, open-source and innovative Smalltalk implementation with suitable for research and business applications. Several companies and universities are using Pharo for their software development. [Pharo-project] Virtual Pharo sprints

Since it is hard to be on two places of the world at the same time (and to save the climate) I could imagine a "virtual sprint" where people who are close can meet in person (in Buenos Aires, others in London, others in Berne) but work together online. One should be able to just tune in using collaborative tools (webcam, skype, IRC, Nebraska, Cobalt, ...). Ideally the tools are written in Pharo (In my archive is some working webcam code) ... [Pharo-project] Problem with window cycling (cmd + narrow)

I think there is a bug in the windows cycling. Or maybe I don't understand it anymore. I remembered I used to press cmd + narrow and the popup raised and then I could choose slowly which windows I wanted. But now, after pressing cmd + left arrow for example, the popup raise, but very quickly disappear. Giving me now time even to look at the current opened windows. I guess this is a bug. What do you think ? I tested in Pharo1.0 rc3 and Pharo 11309. I think this bug is different but related to issue 2289. Cheers Mariano

Hello, Last week I had a error due to a strange behaviour: I had an instance variable and an accessor to this instance variable. The instance variable is instanciated at the initialization of the class. When the error occure, the instance variable is not nil (when inspecting it from the debugger ). But, when evaluating the accessor, it return nil. This occure in the pharo 1.0 dev image. I test it this morning on a clean image and on a click image with moose. It seems that the bug is specific to moose. If you want to reproduce it: Download the last version of Merlin from www.squeaksource.com/DelaunayTmpStuffs. run the method MerlinExamples class >> parametrizedMorphDropLists. it should work correctly. Now restart, load moose (load ConfigurationOfMoose, and evaluate 'ConfigurationOfMoose loadDefault') and then load Merlin from 'DelaunayTmpStuffs'. It should raise an error and you should be able to see this strange behaviour. From the debugger, evaluate 'self dropList' in MorphDropListPart. After showing this bug to Marcus, it seems that something is not weel compiled at one point: browse the method 'dropList' in dropListPart. Now, click on 'view' and 'byte code'. The offset indicated is 10 whereas it should be 15

Hi! Apparently, the change file cannot be condensed in Core 1.1 anymore. I am the only one to experience this? Mariano, maybe we could remove temporarily the change condensing from ConfigurationOfPharo? Stef is right. The only kind of class extension that can be easily packaged is method addition and override, sadly.
