Hello, community (preface) there was a discussion about using git for VM sources and recently in pharo team, we are also discussed that, and decided to go on. So i started to look for an options and found that Gitorious is best solution for us all. In contrast to github, it doesn't charging users when their repository grow beyond 300Mb in size. And its totally free for open-source projects. To be sure, that i understood thing well, i even sent mail to support to clarify some aspects of their policy and got following in answer: <<<< quote start I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am about this! That's the main reason for migrating to git-based hosting: - easy for getting in - no additional administration costs - people can easily exchange the results of their own experiments without putting an 'official' repository in danger. @(John, Elior, Ian & other currently active SVN users) note: There is no pressure for migrating to git-based source code management. if you keep using SVN, no problem. I will take care with refreshing a blessed repo(s) with SVN commits. But if you want to migrate, ask me, and i will add you to 'squeak-vm-developers' group. Note that this group serves only for managing and official 'blessed' repos, and if you don't want participate, you can just live in own corner as anyone else can. The blessed repository obviously made for the branch people could use for compiling an 'official' VM, which is stable and bug free :) Only selected people will have a write access to it. You can, consider that 'blessed' one is the same as current SVN repository. But we extending the model with possibility that everyone outside can do own clone of it, and make own work publicly available. I extracted the mp3 support from Sophie. It works in Squeak 4.1 and Pharo 1.1.1 on Mac OS 10.6.5 Load SophiePort from http://www.squeaksource.com/SPDProjectUpdates Then try: song := StreamingMP3Sound onFileNamed: '/path/to/yourFavorite.mp3'. song play. song pause. Question: * there were checks like the following that had to be removed for Pharo 1.1.1: "WeakArray isFinalizationSupported ifFalse:[^anObject]". Is this no longer necessary? n.b. I am unclear about the license - Sophie has one license, the code itself seems to be SqueakL. Do your own investigation. Sean

I get a pristine one-click image for 1.1 or 1.1.1 from the pharo-project website and do: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfSeaside'; load. ConfigurationOfSeaside load. an hour or so into the install, I get message: Error: stream is already in a subclass of WAHtmlDocument. This is using Mac OS X SnowLeopard. :-( Lawson

[Pharo-project] Background changer script kills Pharo

I tried using the following background changer for Pharo (from http://book.pharo-project.org/book/CustomizingPharo/PuttingABackgroundPictu…) All was well and it nicely changed the background image to various images from socwall.com. I walked away and when I came back, Pharo was no longer running. To make a long story short, on Linux and OS X (I did not try Windows), after some period of time, regardless of whether I am actively using Pharo, Pharo either hangs (becomes unresponsive to input, using 100% CPU, images no longer changing) or disappears abruptly. I tried several variations of the script, including loading images from a local directory (i.e. no network code at all) and even loading images into an ImagePreview morph. In all cases, Pharo eventually either aborts or hangs. I have found nothing in the logs to indicate what happened -- no entries at the time of the abort or hang at all. Decreasing the delay seems to make it happen sooner; I can usually make it happen within 15 minutes of execution with a 2 second delay. It seems to happen more quickly when changing the background image than in an ImagePreview morph. I monitored Pharo's memory usage and it increased from 106 MB to 109 MB during the execution. Plenty of free memory on the system. My questions are: 1. How to debug this? Log to a file to see where it is hanging? 2. How to regain control of a hung Pharo. I tried Cmd-<everything> to no avail. 3. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Some resource being used up, a race condition, etc.?
