Pharo by Example : Still usable?

I believe "Pharo by Example" is the primary book to start-off with Pharo. A look at the Lulu.com page shows it to be from early 2010. Would it still be usable with the present version of Pharo? Thanks, ~Mayuresh

Where pharo stores its selfies?

Hi, I'm taking somescreenshots of Pharo using the functionality provided by Pharo itself to make this. It seems that screenshot is properly saved, but there is no indication about where is stored. Could someone point me the place? Thanks, Offray

hello all, i had to do it. after listening to everybody's comments about my questions to the list, i went out and checked on the current state of squeak and self. looks like squeak and self definitely need a lot of attention from experienced developers and visionaries. since i don't fall squarely in either category, it would be best to work with pharo. also, as someone had mentioned, almost all smalltalk systems have diverged too much from the st-80 specification, so why not go for pharo which is so highly polished already and is being constantly improved! so here i am, back in pharo land. ~mayuresh

Module not found in FFI

I constantly get an error Â« module not found Â» in FFI using the latest 3.0 VM from yesterday. Yet my link does exist, and I have used that a lot of time before. Annick

DataTables jQuery plugin for Seaside and DTMagritteReport

Hi folks, This mail is just a heads-up to anybody already using DataTables (https://datatables.net/) or that developed a Seaside wrapper for it. I just uploaded my initial working version of DataTables to STHub. If your current wrapper is better than mine we can merge our efforts. This initial version supports the basic features to instantiate a DataTables jQuery object, plus support for AJAX+JSON responses and also Server-side Processing (https://datatables.net/manual/server-side) I still have to write a proper example of how to use it, but if you load the DataTables-Magritte package it will include a DTMagritteReport that you can use to replace the "stock" MAReport. Once I have time I'll try to set up an example to show the different ways it can be used. Meanwhile look at the DTMagritteReport class to see a particular use case. It includes support for server side sorting (multiple columns), filtering, pagination, search. To load it with all the dependencies run: Gofer it smalltalkhubUser: 'emaringolo' project: 'DataTables'; package: 'ConfigurationOfDataTables'; load. Voyage, selectMany with multiple Root

Hi people, I've been making a small project using Pharo and Voyage, and everything is going well, but I'm facing a performance issue when retrieving items from Mongo. I've two classes, one for items, and other for users, and both are Root. Each item contains the user who created it. My question is if there's a best way of querying all items for an user, using selectMany, when you have a document containing another. As work-around, by now, I'm making a selectAll and then filter them on memory, and that takes a lot of time and memory when the collection grows. Can you help on this? STON: Metadata of text and yaml translations

Hi, Finally, with help in the Moose mailing list (thanks Doru!), I have automatic update of nodes in my outliner, and its working pretty well. I'm using STON for persistence and I see that when I update a node body content I got a lot of metadata on the text like runs, text font, text color, lastIndex, lastOfset. For reference I have attached two files, test.1.ston which is the original outline with no updates on nodes and test.2.ston which contains the updated nodes with metadata. So my questions are: 1. There is any way to exclude the text metadata or to select the "deepness" of the exportation, including just the content of the text, but not the metadata of it? 2. I see that there is a way to export from STON to JSON. There are plans to implement something like YAML[1] export? If not, which would be a good approach to explore the existing code on STON-Core and implement this? 3. I have seen that text string containing a carriage return are stored with "\r" character in them, there is any way to make the text be stored containing actual carriage returns?
