Multiple NeoJSON mappings for the same domain object

Hi all, Sven, :) I'm working on a domain model that will have different JSON representations for the same domain objects, so depending on the context it will return one representation or another. In the past to solve the multiple representations, what I did was to build "helper" methods that added the mappings to the mapper. So the process was like: 1. instantiate the mapper 2. call a #neoJsonSimple: mapper 3. configure the mapper by calling other mapping defining methods 4. convert the object to a JSON string. If I wanted an "extended" representation, in the step 2 I would call #neoJsonExtended: instead. But I find this "too manual" to scale. So... is there a better, Â¿canonical?, way to achieve this? Thanks! ps: By now it will be only object -> JSON (so NeoJSONWriter), but in the future I might need to instantiate objects back from JSON, so the mappings should be for both mappers. Esteban A. Its odd you can't have our own git project called MyProject/Pharo!

Iâm really quite stunned that having worked happily 6 months ago on a project called github://exercism/pharo <github://exercism/pharo> (a name given to us by the exercism project) - that you canât load that code into Pharo7 anymore either via iceberg or via metacello. It looks like iceberg ignores any paths leading up to a project name and just assumes anything ending in pharo is the actual pharo project. It would be good to get confirmation of this - and also understand what would happen if any other projects happen to collide with each other - e.g. macta/StateSpecs vs google/StateSpecs? Its innocently done - and given we donât currently use prefixes on our project names - we could get a nasty surprise (if Iâve understood the implications correctly). It seems weird that we would do this though, so Iâm wondering if Iâve misunderstood this - hopefully? Can anyone more in the know comment? If it is true, its going to be embarrassing to have to go back to the exercism project (which just recently got funding from the Mozilla foundation) and ask them to change the name of our project to pharo-st because we canât handle the name... Pharo 7 crashes on OSX when unsuspending laptop?

I think I read someone else commenting on this, but I canât find where I read it - but two days in a row now, Iâve had a fresh Pharo 7 image - downloaded with zero sonf and launched from terminal that has crashed with a segfault. Iâve essentially unsuspended my laptop and and then cmd-tabbed to that image to find the apple report tool. The terminal output looks interesting as it actually seems that the image crashed overnight (2am) when my laptop was closed - Iâve shown some terminal info further back where I remember doing some work (ClyExercismSubmitCommand was a class I was working on before I suspended my laptop). I also show the apple report tool below it. Any thoughts - or should I just put this into the bug tracker? Hi all, Pharo Launcher 1.6 has just been released! It is available from http://pharo.org/download. This new version introduces two major changes: the list of template sources is now externalized as a Ston file. Pharo Launcher will check regularly (at startup and each day) if there are changes between your local source of templates and the one hosted in Pharo file server. If so, Pharo Launcher will propose you to update your template sources. It is a way to automatically get new official sources or to keep stable, dev versions up to date. a small UI is now available to manage VMs of PharoLauncher (update, remove, list). Hi - Iâm trying to pick up the Exercism project again - and when trying to come up with instructions for students to load a clean image from the command line (to fit in with their expectations from other tracks and show that Pharo is also capable of great command line foo) I get the error: #pathString: was sent to nil - when I do: ./pharo-ui Pharo.image eval " Metacello new baseline: 'Exercism'; repository: 'github://exercism/pharo:master/dev/src'; load." Ben Coman mentioned to me that this has something to do with the "pharo-project/pharo" repository being pre-defined in Pharo 7? What does this mean? The repo //exercism/pharo was given to us by the Exercism team to match repoâs of other languages like //exercism/ruby etc. So is this really what the problem is - we canât have a repo that includes the name pharo - or have I misunderstood this? Is there a workaround I can put in the do-it to bypass this somehow? Iâm hoping we might have a good answer, as it was going so well in Pharo 6. Tim

I've fixed it and you should be able to load TableSorter and an example of how to use it with: Metacello new baseline:'JQueryWidgetBox'; repository:'http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/Seaside/JQueryWidgetBox/main'; load: 'JQWidgetBox-Tablesorter-Dev' Once it loads you can browse the JQTablesorterExample class & go to http://localhost:8080/jquery-widgets/tablesorter to see the example in action. I want new blank images to be that, blank, and customize each to provide a visual feedback that help me differentiate them at a quick look. Hey, all. I REALLY dig the pharo launcher! this is a great addition. One quick question. How do i go about running a method from the command line? Specifically, I usually run something like: ./pharo Pharo.image ../scripts/setup-client-application.st To set up a new image with the current project. I am not sure which executable to run with this that will execute the same executable as pharo launcher. I have been using this to format dates: printFormat: #(3 2 1 $/ 1 1 2) which goes like: printFormat: formatArray "Answer a String describing the receiver using the argument formatArray." ^ String new: 16 streamContents: [ :aStream | self printOn: aStream format: formatArray ] But i am unclear on how to assemble this formatArray to get a date like: mm/dd/yyyy any ideas? Non-greedy RegEx?

Hi, I just noticed that the Pharo regexes do not understand non-greedy matches. A regex engine to be PCRE is kind of essential, not having '.*?' to be a parseable and working regex is a bummer. Are there any more powerful regex engines around for Pharo? I could not find any. Cheers, Manuel

Hi - Is there a way to create the protocol, then convert it to an extension, without adding a method to it between the time I create the protocol and convert it to an extension? Seems like it if the protocol is empty when I convert it to an extension it gets deleted rather than converted. Would anyone be interested in having the thing that parses protocol names automatically create extension protocols from names that start with * instead of rejecting them immediately? IS the new extension stuff cross platform compatible right now or do I have to do anything else to port these methods & protocols to Squeak and GemStone? Thanks Paul

Hi, everyone. I'm an absolute newbie to Pharo, and to Smalltalk, and I'm trying to learn. I just installed Pharo 7.0.1 (on Windows 10) and I immediately got stuck. I selected "Learn Pharo" in the outline, and it gave me a screen saying: You can learn Pharo by clicking on the following expression: ProfStef go. I clicked on ProfStef go and nothing happened. There are three URL links on the same page that work like they're supposed to, but no matter how many times I try, clicking on ProfStef go appears to do nothing at all. Pharo MOOC 7.0 image

Did someone compile a 7.0 MOOC image yet? Seaside is easy to load, however I got stuck with various packages of Bootstrap / Magritte. When I try to load these either through Metacello, Catalog Browser and through Iceberg there's no success. Catalog Browser usually gives an error message in the status area. QCMagritte seems quite useful and is marked as 7.0 compatible in Catalog Browser. The procedure on Github: Metacello new githubUser: 'Afibre' project: 'QCMagritte' commitish: 'master' path: 'src'; baseline: 'QCMagritte'; load. runs ok, however the majority of Seaside tests are then yellow, some red. And they aren't even "claims"... is just plain insulting without any experience to back up. Isn't any news anymore to read about weakness of Smalltalk implementations, lack of community support, quality, etc. That could be done with almost any developement tool, but strangely one cannot find so fierce criticism against bash, or R, when it's almost 2020 and debugging or testing with them is a complete nightmare. That doesn't mean we should support or reject any myths. I like to read both supports and constructive criticism. On Unix this is OK, the entry is removed from the parent directory and actually deleted when the file is closed. I assume that because CIFS is a windows protocol it doesn't handle it, and leaves the entry there until closed, causing the problems later on. The problem can be reduced to the following code: | root deleteMeFolder | root := '/path/to/cifs' asFileReference. deleteMeFolder := root / 'delme'. deleteMeFolder ensureCreateDirectory. deleteMeFolder delete. That is more the purpose of "standard" metalinks. Could standard metalinks not work? Since in any case you have to have your hand on those objects, so instead of putting an object-centric metalink you could ask for the class and install a normal metalink on write access there, which would affect all instances of that class. You would also have to keep some kind of record of which class you instrumented, so you do not install the link multiple times. Steven.

Hi, the anonymous class thing only happen when you install an object-centric metalink, i.e. on only one specific object. I also wanted to hide the anonymous class, or maybe to only make it visible for environment tools. I need to talk about that with Marcus. Why not installing your metalink on the classes of your objects, so that all instances are affected but in that case there is no anonymous class migration? If that is not possible, in your case maybe a (temporary) hack would be, in your case, to add a test in the #class method in Object (or wherever it is defined): class |myClass| myClass := self class. ^myClass isAnonymous ifTrue:[myClass superclass] ifFalse:[myClass] But i did not test that and i have no idea of the overall impact. Hi, 3) Metalinks - it's based on intercepting method calls, right? But I need to intercept direct instance variable write, so probably not possible no, you can attach metalink to any AST node, including an Assignment Node. Some years ago I've made a small utility for this that also auto-reinstalled when the method has changed. Should work with P6, not sure about the current P7 https://github.com/peteruhnak/metalinks-toolkit . But of course you can attach the MetaLink directly. Porting Github packages to Pharo 7

I would like your advice on this: What's the effortless way to migrate Github repository from Pharo 6 to Pharo 7? I thought in the following solutions: 1) In a Pharo 6 image modify my BaselineOf, add & push a new package MyPackage-Pharo6, then load it into a Pharo 7 image, create MyPackage-Pharo7 and port as needed. The same Metacello installation script is preserved for all versions. 2) Tag repository as x.x in a Pharo 6 image, load my package & do port in a Pharo 7 image and push to master. Previous Pharo 6 version could be loaded referring to a tag (or branch maybe?) in the Metacello installation script. Any recommendations? Alternative paths? Cheers, HernÃ¡n

LibGit error at start up

Hi, I downloaded separately stable P7.0 32 bits image and linux VM. When I fire up, I got this start up error related to Git (which I do not use), see log. It looks like reproducible problem. I get a DirectoryIsNotEmpty exception on FileReference(AbstractFileReference)>>deleteAll. But deleteAll is supposed to delete children too. -> So why the exception ? Seaside or Iliad for business applications?

Hi, Iâm a very happy Iliad user but Iâm wondering if it would make sense to switch to Seaside for commercial development since it has a larger user base. I have only used Seaside briefly to try it out and found I was more happy with Iliad back then, but now Iâd like to hear your input. Especially from those of you who use it for business applications with paying customers. My questions are: - does Seaside support partial updates of the DOM, like Iliad, or do I need to refresh the whole website for every interaction? - Iliad has REST-like URLS that look clean and can be shared, Seaside seems not to. Is this possible with Seaside? - directly writing javascript. I suppose there is a WAComponent that can emit raw JS? - what is the status of Websocket / Comet in Seaside? Is there anything else I should consider? thanks, Siemen
