I was feeling lazy was wondered if it would be possible to hit Cmd-D or Cmd-I in the spotter input field rather than opening a playground and typing something in then hitting it. E.g. 1 + 1 Cmd-I would open an inspector on the number 2 After looking at GTSpotter>>#spotterFor... methods I couldn't figure out how to make it happen in the half hour I had to spend on it. I recognize opening the playground is Cmd-O Cmd-W but I just open the spotter ~50x as often as a new playground so the muscle memory isn't there. If I could do quick one-liners in the spotter then the playground would get opened even less often.

Pharo 7 streams API

Hi, I'm starting to familiarize myself with new streams, and one thing I've noticed is the removal of #lineEndConvention (which I use all the time). So a statement like this aFile writeStreamDo: [ :stream | stream lineEndConvention: #lf. stream << '...' ]. has to be written like so aFile writeStreamDo: [ :rawStream | |stream| stream := (ZnNewLineWriterStream on: rawStream) forLf. stream << '...' ]. which feels very messy because I am mixing writing with the configuration. And I don't even take account for buffered/encoded decorators. Plus it increases the incidental complexity -- I need another variable, and I can accidentally write to the wrong stream, etc. Would a method like #writeStream:do: (or #writeStreamTransform:do:) make sense? E.g. aFile writeStreamTransform: [ :stream | (ZnNewLineWriterStream on: stream) ] do: [ :stream | stream << '...' ] To separate the composition from the usage? Thanks, Peter

What's the status of Pharo exercism?

Presumably someone is working on Pharo Exercism (did I notice Ben or Hilaire asking about the tonel format for it?) Is it possible for someone to put a comment in the repo for it - so we can coordinate effort? Iâm assuming that someone can at least get hello world working as an example? It would also be handy if someone who understands how it works, can give a quick explanation here - as I would offer to suggest it as something for the next UK Smalltalk gathering next month. Iâm assuming the cli submits files to some travis runner and you get results back - and we just have to fill something in that will interpret those files and launch a command line pharo to get the results (presumably handling walkbacks in a way that the results get fed back). And then Iâm guess we have a pharo add-in that would let you do this from the image some way too? Tim

Tonel Fileout

How can a fileout/filein be done using Tonel format? In the first case as a script? and secondly as a possible menu option for Pharo? This is to facilitate transfer of student coding exercises for Exercism. http://exercism.io/languages/pharo/launch Could Tonel handle a full package export in one file? cheers -ben

Pharo Launcher multiplicated PhLDeploymentScript

Hi, I've noticed that when I save Pharo Launcher image (ctrl+shift+s), because I was changing something, then PhLDeploymentScript is added to the the startup classes list. PhLStartupManager startUpClasses "a SortedCollection(PhLDirectoryBasedImageRepository PhLSettingBrowser PhLDeploymentScript PhLDeploymentScript ...(atm 34x)... PhLDeploymentScript)" PhLStartupManager startUpClasses asSet "a Set(PhLDirectoryBasedImageRepository PhLDeploymentScript PhLSettingBrowser)" I didn't notice any impact on functionality or speed (although for some reason there is a significant delay between clicking on the PhL icon and the image opening), but nevertheless it probably should be deduplicated. Iceberg - finding deleted classes, reverting versions?

Hi - I am interested in what the future holds with Iceberg for things like finding deleted classes or reverting to older versions of things. As we tend to use lots of classes in Smalltalk (and view them as cheap) - I often create them, then move behaviour around and delete things I donât need anymore. However, if you want to recover one of those classes - with Envy there was a useful concept of âshow me deleted classes in a packageâ and you would get a list that you could then browse and recover from. Even older squeaks had some nice tools to pull this information from the .changes file (and while not quite the same as envy, it did let a solo developer work efficiently). So I was a bit surprised yesterday in Pharo 6.1 - to struggle to find a class I knew that I had deleted. There seemed to be no easy way to do this - and I thought there was somewhere that had that âAvailable/Deleted classesâ menu. Eventually I went to iceberg and browsed older versions of my package and with some riffing - managed to find what a I wanted - but it definitely seemed harder than it should be - for a concept that feels natural to us. Iâve heard it mentioned that we might get âversionsâ behaviour back via git on a method or existing class - but what about Deleted classes - is this something we will be able to do more easily? Tim
