Problem with vmmaker images
by Damien Cassou May 6, 2016

May 6, 2016

Hi, the vmmaker image http://files.pharo.org/vm/src/spur/vmmaker-image.zip runs on top of Pharo 5 but with PharoV40.sources. The wget -O- get.pharo.org/vm50 downloads PharoV50.sources and not PharoV40.sources. This means scripts using the vmmaker-image need to be fixed to download PharoV40.sources manually. -- Damien Cassou http://damiencassou.seasidehosting.st "Success is the ability to go from one failure to another without losing enthusiasm." --Winston Churchill

PharoV50.sources
by Alexandre Bergel May 6, 2016

May 6, 2016

Hi! It would be fantastic to have that file downloadable from the pharo.org :-) This is all good work! Keep doing! Cheers, Alexandre -- _,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;: Alexandre Bergel http://www.bergel.eu ^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;.

[Pharo5] New PharoV50.sources
by Marcus Denker May 6, 2016

May 6, 2016

Hi, Was with every release, we have created a new .sources file. It is available at http://files.pharo.org/sources/ The latest Pharo5 (50750) now uses this. ZeroConf and the builds have been updated to include this file. Please test and tell us if you see any problems. (And we should really simplify the .sources/.changes story for Pharo6â¦.) Marcus

Mac OS Cocoa MIDI Plugin
by Eliot Miranda May 5, 2016

May 5, 2016

Hi All, recently the Cog VM on Mac OS X moved to Cocoa, the Objective-C API for the platform, leaving behind the old Carbon C API. There is some backward compatibility support but it is gradually being deprecated by Apple. One victim is the MIDIPlugin which was written against a ComponentManager API that, while Apple docs say is only deprecated, has actually disappeared. Consequently the MIDIPlugin support (see http://www.squeakvm.org/svn/squeak/branches/Cog/platforms/iOS/plugins/MIDIP…) needs completely rewriting to use Cocoa APIs. I've recently changed the build so that the MIDIPlgin is built externally, which will make it easier to work on; one doesn't need to build the entire VM, only the plugin. I'm looking for volunteers who a) love music/know MIDI b) are happy programming at the Objective-C level using command-line builds and perhaps Xcode, but more immediately lldb for debugging. If interested, reply to vm-dev and we can continue discussions there; there are folks that can help with Mac OS support, but no one I know of that has time to write this rather important plugin for multi-media. It would be a great shame to lose MIDI on Mac. ______,,,^..^,,,______ AdvThanksance, Eliot

[ANN] Pharo Astares Distribution
by Torsten Bergmann May 4, 2016

May 4, 2016

Hi, I summarized some of the goodies that I wrote like - DesktopManager - QuickAccess - HubCap - WebBrowser - MessageFlowBrowser - ... into an own kind of Pharo distribution that I call AstaresDistribution. So if you already use these goodies it is easier to load quickly into a fresh image. You can load directly from Catalog or by opening Spooter, enter "Astares" and hit ENTER to load. Alternatively you can download a prebuilt image using PharoLauncher from "Pharo Contributions Jenkins" -> "AstaresDistribution" or directly from [1]. Screenshot attached. Have fun T. Keep print-it output on the same line in GTPlayground
by Peter Uhnák May 4, 2016

May 4, 2016

Hi, currently when you print the last statement in the playground and press enter (to insert the comment into the playground) it outputs it after, which is good. However if I then go back and evaluate a line above, it places the output on the _next_ line, just before the next statement, which is quite annoying. â Can this be changed, so it keeps it in line like this? â Thanks, Peter
