Google Summer of Code - New Trait Implementation
by tesonep＠gmail.com March 31, 2017

March 31, 2017

Hello, I am planning in working in a new Traits implementation, the idea is to have an implementation that can work as a loadable module. So you can use it or not as another library. Also the idea is improve the support of all the tools by improving the polymorphism between traits and classes. Clean up a little the API and add support to have stateful traits. I would like to know if you have any suggestion or have a problem that I could try to solve. I have been talking with some people in the community to get ideas, but always having more opinions is better. Thanks in advance. Pablo -- Pablo Tesone. tesonep(a)gmail.com

Path>>/ and ..
by Alistair Grant March 30, 2017

March 30, 2017

Hi All, The current implementation of Path>>/, while functional, seems to me to create poorly formed paths, e.g.: ('/a/b/c/d' asFileReference / '../e') path ==> "Path / 'a' / 'b' / 'c' / 'd' / '../e'" As can be seen above, the last segment is '../e'. I would expect the result to be: "Path / 'a' / 'b' / 'c' / 'e'" Is there a reason for the current behaviour? If not, are people open to modifying Path>>/ to produce the suggested result above (in Pharo 7)? The method below produces the modified result above and doesn't change the result of running all automated tests. If this is going to be added to Pharo 7 I'll create an additional automated test to check that it is working properly. Cheers, Alistair 'From Pharo6.0 of 13 May 2016 [Latest update: #60451] on 29 March 2017 at 9:40:41.681228 am'! !Path methodsFor: 'navigating' stamp: 'AlistairGrant 3/29/2017 09:39'! / aString | path | aString isEmptyOrNil ifTrue: [ Error signal: 'Path element cannot be empty or nil']. ^self resolve: (Path from: aString) ! !

LatestVM has socket related problem
by Denis Kudriashov March 30, 2017

March 30, 2017

Hi. Following script works fine on stable Mac 32 VM but failed on latest: (server := Socket newTCP) setOption: 'TCP_NODELAY' value: 1; setOption: 'SO_SNDBUF' value: 4096; setOption: 'SO_RCVBUF' value: 4096. server listenOn: 40423 backlogSize: 32. serverProcess := [connectedSocket := server waitForAcceptFor: 2000] fork. 100 milliSeconds wait. socket := Socket newTCP. socket connectTo: #[127 0 0 1] port: 40423 waitForConnectionFor: 10. 200 milliSeconds wait. clientStream := SocketStream on: socket. clientProcess := [clientStream sendCommand: 'test'] fork. serverStream := SocketStream on: connectedSocket. serverProcess := [result := serverStream nextLine] fork. Saving a vm from command lines opens it with a small size
by Andrei Chis March 29, 2017

March 29, 2017

Hi, I have the following script that I run on mac: wget -O- get.pharo.org/vmLatest60 | bash wget -O- get.pharo.org/60 | bash ./pharo Pharo.image eval "Smalltalk snapshot: true andQuit: true" ./pharo-ui Pharo.image Initially I thought that it doesn't work but then I saw that it opens a very very small window with just a tiny scrollbar. Screenshot here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/74244847/Data/Screen%20Shot%202017-03-2… . Cheers, Andrei
