latest vm - 32bit - crash on mac

Hi, I just got a crash on Mac when using the latest VM. I attached the dump. This was a short session. I played a bit with a few Roassal visualizations, and then I started some coding in Nautilus, and the image crashed while typing the body of a method. I am on OS X, 10.11.6 (Mac OS X El Capitain). Alien osVersion is not defined. Pharo 5

Hi! I've been trying to run some examples from Alien. It seems that the method 'osVersion' is not defined anymore and that method is used in: Allien class>>libcName I guess it was a method that was removed from SmalltalkImage. Any work around? Thanks! [Ann] Commander. Command pattern library

Hi. I am glad to announce Commander library which implements command pattern based on first class objects. In Commander every application action is implemented as separate class with #execute method and all state required for execution. Commands are reusable objects and applications provide various ways to access them: shortcuts, context menu, buttons, etc.. This information is attached to command classes as activator objects. Currently there are three types of activators: - CmdShortcutCommandActivator - CmdContextMenuCommandActivator - CmdDragAndDropCommandActivator Activators are declared in command class side methods marked with pragma #commandActivator. For example following method will allow RenamePackageCommand to be executed by shortcut in possible system browser: RenamePackageCommand class>>packageBrowserShortcutActivator <commandActivator> ^CmdShortcutCommandActivator by: $r meta for: PackageBrowserContext And for context menu it will be: RenamePackageCommand class>>packageBrowserMenuActivator <commandActivator> ^CmdContextMenuCommandActivator byRootGroupItemFor: PackageBrowserContext Activators are always declared with application context where they can be applied (PackageBrowserContext in example). Application should provide such contexts with information about application state. Every widget can bring own context to interact with application as separate tool. For example system browser shows multiple panes which provide package context, class context and method context. And depending on context browser shows different menu and provides different shortcuts. Some test where Spur more slow than Cog

Hi. I found case where Spur more slow than Cog. Not much but. prototype := BorderedMorph new. result := [prototype veryDeepCopy ] benchFor: 2 seconds. In my computer I got: Cog: a BenchmarkResult(16,982 iterations in 2 seconds 1 millisecond. 8,487 per second) Spur: a BenchmarkResult(12,507 iterations in 2 seconds 33 milliseconds. 6,152 per second). Is it expected behavior for such case?

Hello PolyMath contains packages that implement different optimization and statistical analysis algorithms that are used in machine learning (like linear regression, least squares, hill climbing and so on). It also has an implementation of a genetic algorithm. I think we need 2 kind: 1) some 5-8 âmost importantâ ones 2) a list of maybe 20 issues that are interesting I think the easiest is to do it together.. so if you have points for the 2 kinds of changes, I would be interested. Hi, I am happy to announce that OâReilly has published my Steering Agile Architecture video training: http://www.humane-assessment.com/blog/steering-agile-architecture-video-tra… This video is based on my work on humane assessment, and it features Moose prominently. It also shows Pharo, GT and Roassal (in the last part). The video is indeed paid and it is mainly targeted to people that have a Safari Books Online subscription. But, the interesting thing about it is that it opens Pharo and Moose to a new kind of an audience, OâReilly being the most prominent publishing company in the software area. Agile architecture is considered a prominent topic but the literature (until now) was rather loose at how to make it really work in practice. This course offers both a concrete approach based on humane assessment. As you might know, humane assessment centers around the idea of building tools cheaply as a way to figure the system out, and this is right now pretty much only practicable in Moose and Pharo. One thing that I ask people when I go to conferences, the last one being the Software Architecture Conference organized by OâReilly, is if they like working with legacy systems. They actively dislike it. Then I show them demos of how it can be like and then I ask them if they think these demos are cool. And I never encountered one that did not find it cool. So, in a way, we can now be quite confident in saying that we work on the single platform that makes working with an existing system cool. Not a small feat. So, if you do get the chance to look at these things, you might also get a concrete inspiration of how to leverage Pharo skills within companies that do not yet work with Pharo. Could we have additional channels: #welcome - which would be the generally advertised invite URL. A read-only channel that informs about community rules and summaries available channels etc (maybe including hidden channels and who to ask for invite) #help - To be referenced from in-Image Help Browser. Maybe later have an in-Image chat tool that connects to this channel. How cool would it be to have live help from within the IDE? #mooc - So people can maybe look back through history before asking questions, and also people further along might help others less advanced ==> more participation cheers -ben

stepping off the end of the debug stack

I imagine a newcomer exploring the system could easily step off the end of the debug stack like this... (1 printString) "debugIt" then StepOver six times where the image hangs at "Processor terminateActive" This could have a strong impact against first impressions. What would it take to guard against this? cheers -ben
