Hi pharoers just a little email to tell you that we are super happy because we are in the situation to remove old, unused or part in love for retirement from Pharo. And we are doing this at the level of the image but also the VM. So far we removed GT Glamour Alien (under way) OldFFI (under way) Old byte code (on the way) Many Pharo 80 deprecated methods. We plan to remove Spec1 - finally Commander Refactorings in favor of Refactorings2 At the level of the VM Yesterday pablo fixed 1000 warnings We removed Newspeak support MT, old bytecode while fixing ephemerons, GC bugs, ... This is super important to travel light because it will let us be agile and faster. So if you see questionable code please let us know. We do not want to remove functionality but we want to make sure that we do not doublons. S.

Luancher - Stable Pharo 9-based Release?

Is there a stable Launcher release based on P9? If not, is there a timeline? The zip bug in P8 means that Launcher often goes over Macâs open file limit and the workaround is a PITA (requires sudo, etc).

Hello community Just a little mail from holidays to let you know that from September on we will try a new organisation. Pharo 9 (with Covid and amount of work) was stressful for us. Seriously we deliver more than expected so we did several meta meetings (and we will continue) to understand how we can work with less stress. In particular we want to be able to give better feedback to the community while being able to deliver the large items we have on our plate. FileLocator uninitialised ?

Hi, It seems that in the latest Pharo 9 (downloaded minutes ago) the following: FileLocator desktop resolve. Pops up a dialog asking to set the location of {desktop} manually. I am guessing FileLocator did not properly initialise at startup. It seems it is missing from the session manager. This is bad. Maybe the full list of classes that are supposed to be part of the session manager's start up sequence need to be checked. Such a failure to initialise are sometimes hard to find and can lead to subtle bugs. Sven
