Re: [Pharo-project] HostWindows rewrite
by Bill Schwab Nov. 26, 2008

That is certainly possible. In fact, if the tools are available in both systems, have Morphic rescue a troubled native system too. However, all I am saying is that we should avoid both of the following: (1) native widgets are a joke and should never be used (2) native widgets are the answer to all problems for all time I do not (much) care whether the IDE is emulated or native. I **do** care that I can mix them up as needed in my own software. Case in point, I Dolphin, I do a lot of emulating for large grids, etc. Native and emulated both have their uses, and we should not do anything that clobbers either unless we gain a lot from it. Currently, if you got a bug in morphic code, there's a big chance in complete loss the display and no way to see anything or debug it. With multiple host windows, you can spawn a new host window with debugger, and then step through the drawing routines and see what is happening and how your code drawing things. > > > > Wilhelm K. [Pharo-project] OB package browser don't detects new packages/updates a package list
by Igor Stasenko Nov. 26, 2008

Nov. 26, 2008

I filed out a package in one image, and then filed it in into a fresh one, which hasn't it before. I was little confused that brower can't see my package nor its sole class. Then i tried a system browser, to check what is going on , and found that my class is installed and sitting in image, while package browser pretends its not (it can't browse a class by its name, nor package). I forced it to appear only after adding package manually by issuing 'add package' in package pane menu. -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

[Pharo-project] mac carbon VM Squeak 3.8.20beta1U.app ships for testing.
by John M McIntosh Nov. 26, 2008

Nov. 26, 2008

I've stuck a Squeak 3.8.20beta1U.app.zip file in my EXPERIMENTAL folder found via http://www.smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html This test VM contains the latest 32/64 bit integer fetch/set logic & fixes, Alien support and the Alien (IA32ABI) plugin, along with misc fixes to the VM consolidated by Tim and integrated into VMMaker by David T. Lewis in the last few months. If you want to explore Alien then you need this VM and it's plugin to continue. Hint if someone would like to run some benchmarks and compare Alien versus FFI calls that would be good. I note the Alien plugin is macintel only, no powerpc at this time (got funding?) -- = = = ======================================================================== John M. [Pharo-project] Wrapper bug (is ByteSurgeon the cause of it ?)
by Antoine Marot Nov. 25, 2008

Nov. 25, 2008

Hi all, I have a very strange bug when I use method wrappers. Here is my wrapper code (actually it does nothing but calling the method) : ProtoObject variableSubclass: #Wrapper instanceVariableNames: 'compiledMethod' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'Wrapper-Core' Wrapper>>#doesNotUnderstand: aMessage ^aMessage sendTo: compiledMethod Wrapper>>#run: aSymbol with: arguments in: rec ^rec withArgs: arguments executeMethod: compiledMethod Wrapper>>#compiledMethod: c compiledMethod:=c. ^self Now I want to execute this : SequenceableCollection methodDict at: #copyFrom:to: put: (Wrapper new compiledMethod: (SequenceableCollection>>#copyFrom:to:)). It works fine with a new pharo-dev image. But if I install ByteSurgeon before that, it crashes the VM if I click on the workspace for instance. I just don't know what possibly happen, any help would be very appreciated :) Regards, Antoine ------ Antoine Marot Ph.D Student Université Libre de Bruxelles Département d'Informatique
