We currently have both "inspect" and "explore". It would be nice to have one tool. I'd vote for "explore" as a base with some enhancements to pick up the useful features from "inspect". -david

Hi all I wanted to share that with you. I'm reading the PhD of Romain Robbes and he has an excellent chapter on measuring different strategies for code completion. One of the best algorithm is to keep a list with the recently modified methods and the messages they send. His benchmark shows a drastic improvement even compared with ecompletion with RoelTyper. So david do you store the recently modified methods globally for all the browsers? Is it easily accessible? He also mentioned that we get even better results by combining RoelTyper and then this approach... any taker? this is important to have much better editing tools. Stef

Hi all I was rereading our excellent forthcoming seaside book :) And lukas wrote "To listen on port 80, the standard port used by the HTTP protocol, the web server needs to run as root. Running a public service as root is a huge security issue. Dedicated web servers such as Apache drop their root privileges after startup. This allows them to listen to port 80 while not being root. Unfortunately this is not something that can be easily done from within the Smalltalk VM. " And I was wondering what is the exact problem? Stef

Do you all think it might be a good idea to extend the UIManager protocol to include things like colour pickers (and other, like print etc.)? I'm sure we can all think of things that would be desirable as standard "utility" dialogs. Best to get the interface in early to ensure adoption. Regards, Gary.

Hello all, I grabbed 10183, hacked it into a one-click image on my Ubuntu box at home, and found the Polymorph is indeed in the image. Frankly, I suspect I might have missed it once before, possibly mistaking the watery theme for the default look. It's great to see it included. As Pharo 1.0 takes shape, what is the plan for getting packages loaded the way each of us wants? Is Installer the preferred route? Would I be expected to script it (I find myself hoping so - load the latest of this, that, specific version of this other thing, etc.)? I tried to quickly load Shout and the SM package loader was not happy, but that could easily be my fault. More questions and comments, but first, I need to get some overdue sleep.
