[Pharo-project] Fwd: [Vm-dev] Fwd: Show stopper network bug on Windows
by Igor Stasenko July 22, 2009

July 22, 2009

All, who interested in this, please continue this topic on VM-dev list. Because Andreas is maintainer of windoze VM, and no one knows better than he is of what is working or not and why. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Andreas Raab <andreas.raab(a)gmx.de> Date: 2009/7/23 Subject: Re: [Vm-dev] Fwd: [Pharo-project] Show stopper network bug on Windows To: Squeak Virtual Machine Development Discussion <vm-dev(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org> Igor Stasenko wrote: > > Hello guys, those, who not subscribed to the Pharo list. > > I think you should read this: > Â http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=961 > > since it seems there are some networking problems with Win32 VM. None of these are Windows VM issues. The problem referred to above is simply that someone was using a year-old 3.10.2 VM and tried to call IPv6 primitives (the debug log shows that clearly). The IPv6 prims are not available in these old VMs. The discussion below is similarly confused. The Windows VM does return fully qualified names if your network environment is set up properly. Usually, the domain name is set by DHCP, but you can set it manually in the advanced network settings (on XP it's under network, properties, TCP/IP, advanced, append dns suffixes; Vista will surely differ). Cheers, Â - Andreas -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

by Boris Popov July 22, 2009

I'm new to Pharo, so one of the first things I tried was to go System->Software update, which results in the attached error after a while, Pharo0.1 Latest update: #10379 Squeak VM 3.11.3 (beta) from Jul 10 2009 Also, why is debug.log using Mac EOL convention on a Windows machine? by Damien Cassou July 22, 2009

Hi, it's been quite some time (relatively to Pharo speed) that no core has been produced. Could you please release an image? Thank you -- Damien Cassou http://damiencassou.seasidehosting.st "Lambdas are relegated to relative obscurity until Java makes them popular by not having them." James Iry

[Pharo-project] Who are you?
by Alexandre Bergel July 22, 2009

July 22, 2009

Dear all, 284 people are subscribed to this mailing list. It is a bit hard to deduce how many users of Pharo there are, but the number of subscriptions gives a number at least. How many companies are using Pharo? Without thinking too much, I know there are Netstyle.ch and Pinesoft. Are there more? I am preparing an academic presentation and having such figure will be great. Kind regards, Alexandre -- _,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;: Alexandre Bergel http://www.bergel.eu ^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;.

John do you know if the primitives mentioned by nicolas are integrated in the mac VM. David Lewis integrated them apparently in VMmaker http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7368 http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7260 Stef

[Pharo-project] Halo lost in linux and others quirks
by jdinunci＠uc.edu.ve July 22, 2009

July 22, 2009

Hello, I'm new to smalltalk, I've been trying squeak for some time, and recently I discovered pharo, so I downloaded the files and started to play with it. The problems: *) Halos behave inconsistently: I can only activate halos in the world menus. If I middle-click in the workspace, the preference browser or any other window, they don't appear. *) Preference Browser -> Keyboard: If I deactivate duplicateAllControlAndAltKeys and duplicateControlAndAltKeys, no matter the state of swapControlAltKeys, actions like copy are always invoked by the alt key. *) If I use the window menu -> window color and *drag* the pointer over the palette, the system slows down and the mouse is captured by the palette for several seconds (the more time you drag, the more time you need to regain control). Where I'm tenting: @ work: Intel Core2 Duo, 2GB RAM, Ubuntu 9.10 64 bits @ home: Intel, 512MB RAM, Ubuntu 9.10 32 bits What I'm testing: set #1: pharo-vm-0.15.1b-linux, pharo0.1-10373web09.07.2.zip set #2: pharo-vm-0.15.1b-linux, pharo0.1-10379dev09.07.3.zip set #3: exupery 0.15-linux, pharo0.1-10373web09.07.2.zip set #4: exupery 0.15-linux, pharo0.1-10379dev09.07.3.zip all sets with SqueakV39-sources.zip In all sets, both machines, the problems were the same. I've been playing with squeak 3.9 installed from the official ubuntu repository in both machines and it runs fine. I tried using that interpreter with the pharo images and it couldn't read the images due to version mismatch (6502 vs. 6504). I' tried to compile the last squeak but I didn't had all dependencies at hand, and it was too late. Thanks -- Ing. José Dinuncio Unidad de Redes Telemáticas Universidad de Carabobo

[Pharo-project] [ANN] Algernon now available in Pharo
by Esteban Lorenzano July 22, 2009

July 22, 2009

Hi, I uploaded a new version of Algernon, now working with Pharo. The changes I introduced were: -changed the updating system: now it is automatic, but just when Algernon is shown (this will make a little bit slower the showing of Algernon, but preserves you from need to press cmd+r to refresh the system -who after all, everybody I know does every time-). -using #beginsWith: instead deprecated #startsWith: -using #fileOutCategory: instead non-existing #fileOutCategory:asHtml: You will need latest changes of Pharo (Stef fix to TextMorph), and execute this script to have Algernon on your system: ScriptLoader new installingUniverse. "In case you don't have already Universes installed" Installer universe addPackage: 'Algernon'; answer: '*' with: false; install. Installer ss project: 'Algernon'; install: 'Algernon'. Installer wiresong project: 'ob'; install: 'OB-Algernon'. Algernon open. Cheers, Esteban
