Hi Gary, I'm working on removing the Sound package. Polymorph's SoundTheme class has some methods that reference RestSound. For instance: windowRestoreDownSound ^self sounds at: #windowRestoreDown ifAbsent: [RestSound dur: 0] Could we change these methods, for example like this: windowRestoreDownSound ^self sounds at: #windowRestoreDown ifAbsent: [self defaultDefaultSound] and then defaultDefaultSound ^ Beeper default Projects that use sound can then load the Sound package and define their own SoundTheme. [Pharo-project] Anyone mixing Matlab/Octave and Pharo?

Hello all, Are any of you doing scientific computing on Pharo? I have some seriously old Numerical Recipes code that I altered and compiled, and more recently have used the GNU Scientific Library. All of that is connected to Dolphin, and it will take some time to adapt it to Pharo. Even more recently, I found reason to exceed GSL's feature list, and Octave might be able to do the job. The first thing would be do the minimum work to get some data into Octave and see how it does. Ideally, I would want to pipe data into Octave, get results from it, and then do some post-processing in Pharo. In GSL (dll/so) terms, the idea is to do all of the memory management and algorithm level work in Smalltalk, and the tight loops via the external code, and hopefully to do all of that w/o littering the drive with temporary files. Any experience, good or bad, in those directions? Bill

[Pharo-project] Communication medium - Why not use/anticipate wave tools ?

Hi, Just got a wavesanbox[1] account and I can't help thinking this would be a good (global?) comunication medium (enriched emails, mailing-lists, tutorials, technical discussions and also bug tracker...). What do other think ? Could we create a Smalltalk related waves/groups as a start ? And what about having bindings and a protocol implementation in Smalltalk ? Apple told me today that WikiServer for the iPhone version 1.4.3 is now in the store. This version is not yet based on Pier 1.2 I am working on that, anyone who wants to beta-test WikiServer 1.5 should email me. However we have add a macintosh, windows, and linux client so you can import/export wiki content to/from desktop machines and iphone devices.
