Ok, yesterday I had grabbed the Pharo1.0beta latest update: #10401 from the download link on the pharo page in order to rebuild the iPhone ebook st80docs (I'll say more once Apple approves). So this morning I fired up the image using a macintosh carbon 4.1.1beta2U vm then executed >> | f1 f2 | >> f1 := Form extent: 8@8 depth: 32. >> f1 fillColor: (Color r: 1.0 g: 1.0 b: 0.7 alpha: 0.6). >> f2 := Form extent: 8@8 depth: 32. >> f2 fillColor: (Color r: 0.5 g: 1.0 b: 0.7 alpha: 0.7). >> (BitBlt toForm: f1) sourceForm: f2; combinationRule: 20; copyBits. >> (f1 colorAt: 2@2) alpha and I get 1.0 I note http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.sapphire.devel/8433 Maybe you have the 2007 BitBltPlugin.bundle loaded? [Pharo-project] How to build a GUI
by laurent laffont Aug. 10, 2009

Aug. 10, 2009

Hi, I'm a bit (well, totally) lost on how to build a GUI with Polymorph or ToolBuilder or whatever. I want to code a GUI with the same look & feel as Pharo tools. I cannot find any up to date comprehensive guide on the subject. May be you have some links, or good books .... Laurent

[Pharo-project] file dialog
by Tudor Girba Aug. 10, 2009

Aug. 10, 2009

Hi, I need to load a file from the disk. I am invoking: UIManager default chooseFileMatching: '*.mse' label: 'Import model from MSE file.'. The problem is that I do not see any files, even though I have files with .mse ending in the directory. Also, even if I pass '*.*' I still cannot see the files (only the directories). Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Next time you see your life passing by, say 'hi' and get to know her."

[Pharo-project] drawing tabs
by Tudor Girba Aug. 10, 2009

Aug. 10, 2009

Hi, We (me and Jorge) are having some problems with drawing TabGroupMorph properly. The very first time the tabs are displayed, the background is not drawn correctly (see the attached picture). However, after we select another window or a tab, the tabs background are drawn correctly. In the same time, when we execute UITheme exampleGroups, everything works fine. We think we are doing the same thing, but obviously we do not. Could anyone indicate some possible tracks to look at? Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Not knowing how to do something is not an argument for how it cannot be done."

[Pharo-project] Good Work Guys!
by Daniel P Zepeda Aug. 10, 2009

Aug. 10, 2009

All, I just had to let you all know that I'm so very excited about the Pharo project. I've been back and forth with Squeak for many years. Like others, I love the language, but very much disliked the interface. I knew I just couldn't foist the look-and-feel on my users and get away with it. Seaside mitigated this somewhat, since they wouldn't have to see the interface, but it was still sort of painful to me. I hated being so shallow that the look and feel affected me so much, but there it was. I totally agree with you guys and your direction. My kids will still use Squeak, but for me, it will be Pharo, different systems for different goals. For me Pharo looks awesome, and while I've only looked a little bit at Polymorph, it seems to be exactly what is needed, a bunch of ready-made widgets to build UI's. I'll have no problem with my users dealing with this interface. I can't wait for the UI builder I've seen on Youtube. Finally, a truly cross-platform development system for smalltalk for the mainstream developer! This is probably too long already, but thank you for all of your hard work! DZ
