[Pharo-project] [BUG]OpenDBXMacOSX(Object)>>error:
by François Tanguy Aug. 23, 2009

Aug. 23, 2009

Hello, it may be a noobie question but I tried to execute the GlorpTest and it failed in one case. If the DBXDriver is used, the tests failed. (See the stacktrace below) | tr | SqueakDatabaseAccessor DefaultDriver: SqueakDBXDriver. tr := TestRunner new. ToolBuilder open: tr. tr categoryAt: (tr categoryList indexOf: 'GlorpTest') put: true; selectAllClasses; runAll. But the native driver is used, the tests passed. | tr | SqueakDatabaseAccessor DefaultDriver: NativePostgresDriver. tr := TestRunner new. ToolBuilder open: tr. tr categoryAt: (tr categoryList indexOf: 'GlorpTest') put: true; selectAllClasses; runAll. I thought the DBXDriver could be used to manage postgresql database, no ? [Pharo-project] Line end convention in MultiByteFileStream
by Damien Cassou Aug. 23, 2009

Aug. 23, 2009

Hi, when creating a file, the line end convention of the OS is not enforced by default. As an example, FileStream forceNewFileNamed: 'test' do: [:stream | stream nextPut: $a; cr; nextPut: $b; cr] always creates a file with MacOS X line end convention. To enforce the line end convention of the system, one has to do the following: ... do: [:stream | stream wantsLineEndConvention: true; ... is it the desired behavior? If yes, should we ensure that #wantsLineEndConvention is called each time Pharo generates a file for the user (e.g., PharoDebug.log). -- Damien Cassou http://damiencassou.seasidehosting.st "Lambdas are relegated to relative obscurity until Java makes them popular by not having them." [Pharo-project] graphic copy/paste in os-x
by John M McIntosh Aug. 22, 2009

Aug. 22, 2009

http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=514 Ok, I put up some change sets, and a new extended clipboard bundle. I don't know if it will all load in a current image, but someone can figure this out for me. If it all loads then for example: In TextEdit enter: Caño del dÃa copy, now fire up the current Pharo WITHOUT the changes, paste. you will see: Can?o del di?a The problem is that the current clipboard logic does not do UTF8 normalization. The new logic and plugin does. fire up the current Pharo WITH the changesets and plugin paste you will see Caño del dÃa Now Graphics. execute Clipboard default addClipboardDataFromForm: (Form fromDisplay: (Display boundingBox)). now go to Apple's Preview application and do New From Clipboard ? In Apple's Preview open a favourite image copy now back to Pharo and inspect Clipboard default readTIFFClipboardData that should return a form, executing this should display it. Clipboard default readTIFFClipboardData displayOn: Display -- = = = ======================================================================== John M. [Pharo-project] About Pharo working packages
by Stéphane Ducasse Aug. 22, 2009

Aug. 22, 2009

Hi all About http://code.google.com/p/pharo/wiki/PackagesTestedInPharo I was wondering if it would not be better to use the Universe mechanism. We could create a Pharo Universe and people could describe that their packages load in Pharo1.0 This would be great and important to get a update to date catalog of what is working in Pharo1.0. What do you think? Stef

[Pharo-project] There is a story in everything
by Stéphane Ducasse Aug. 21, 2009

Aug. 21, 2009

Hi guys I have fun cleaning this cool morph demos. I can find pearl in the two sense of the term: Cool morph pearls (this is why we should receover the examples) and less cool coding sample. Example Object class>> launchPartVia: aSelector label: aString "Obtain a morph by sending aSelector to self, and attach it to the morphic hand. This provides a general protocol for parts bins" | aMorph | aMorph := self perform: aSelector. aMorph setNameTo: (ActiveWorld unusedMorphNameLike: aString). aMorph setProperty: #beFullyVisibleAfterDrop toValue: true. aMorph openInHand StickyPad class>> launchPartVia: aSelector label: aString "Obtain a morph by sending aSelector to self, and attach it to the morphic hand. This provides a general protocol for parts bins. Overridden here so that all instances will be given the name, unlike the prevailing convention for other object types" | aMorph | aMorph := self perform: aSelector. aMorph setNameTo: self defaultNameStemForInstances. "i.e., circumvent uniqueness in this case" aMorph setProperty: #beFullyVisibleAfterDrop toValue: true. aMorph openInHand May be a hook is missing :) Stef (once called by Andreas R. "a random refactorer" which is certainly not an insult anymore :)).

[Pharo-project] Getting Javascript in Moose and/or Pharo
by Alexandre Bergel Aug. 21, 2009

Dear List Making Pharo interacting with Javascript has been the cup of tea of the Seaside community. I am wondering whether there has been an attempt to produce a parser for Javascript within Pharo. We are interested in getting Javascript models within Moose. For now, it is likely what we will use the parser of Mozilla to produce MSE files. [Pharo-project] Mac carbon VM 4.2.1Beta1U posted
by John M McIntosh Aug. 21, 2009

Aug. 21, 2009

I've posted a macintosh carbon VM 4.2.1Beta1U to the usual places found via http://www.smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html If there are no immediate problems then people should consider using this VM for their one-click offerings and ensuring this is the current default macintosh VM on Squeak.org. Early adopters should email the list right away in case of problems. As a reminder the 4.x series of macintosh VM have clean 32bit address space support, IPV6, full UTF-8 for file names and clipboard, Closure support when activated by the image, and BitBlt fixes to enable beautiful fonts via Squeak on the macintosh, plus the VM plugins folder has all the latest plugins. If you *must* run a 3.8.x flavor of VM (why?) then you should use the latest fixed version which is 3.8.21b1 3.8.20 & 3.8.19 both have flaws causing image save failures, and 3.8.17 or earlier are not 32bit clean hence more probable to crash on you. A warning about BitBltPlugin.bundle distributed as "BitBltPlugin.v1.0.0b1.FreeTypePlus.bundle.zip" This was an override to provide some better font behaviour rendering that was done in early 2007. If you have this on your computer in a Plugins folder or think you need it, beware it will override the NEW fixed bitblt and you wonder why your fonts don't render correctly in the last font efforts for Squeak. Therefore you should delete all/any copies of BitBltPlugin.bundle Changes: There are some fixes to enable this VM to run a 64bit based Image, this is still a 32bit VM btw, and now the VM comes with a macintosh QuickLook plugin that renders the thumbnail out of newer eToys projects. Plus it has the Aug fixes for rendering antialiased StrikeFonts. Other fixes detailed below: 4.2.1b1 We update our VM to VMMaker-dtl.135 Fixes Reference Mantis 7260: some Float comparison primitives don't handle Nan correctly Enable VM to run 64 bit images as a 32 bit VM Reference Mantis 5238: Integer bug on 64bit image/32bit VM Reference Mantis 7376: Bug in BitBlt (rgbMul sets alpha to 0) Reference Mantis 7377: VM Crashes when setting port on destroyed socket (Win32) Reference Mantis 7384: GeniePlugin does not compile on closure- enabled images Added eToys suggestion for a read only resource directory when sandboxed. Info.plist gets a UTI and the SqueakResourceDirectory path Via Bert Freudenberg added QuickLook plugin for rendering eToys project image Thumbnail -- = = = ======================================================================== John M. Hi folks: This but is still happening to me. In only happens in Linux and with the core image. In this situation, I cannot use this image because every SystemWIndows I open or close, do a beep. However, the Pharo dev image works ok for me. The solution is very simple: Disable the preference: "soundsEnabled" The thing is that this is really annoying and there is a lot of people that it isn't aware of that. In addition, in Pharo, it is already disable by default. Can this be change? I am sorry I don't know how to really fix it. Best, Mariano

[Pharo-project] copy graphics from macintosh clipboard

Ok, after five intense hours I moved enough FFI code out of Sophie into Pharo's extended clipboard logic to let you copy a graphic in Apple's Preview application, and *paste* that into Pharo which results in a Form. Worked on the first do-it, most pleased. Hints here are welcome, what do we do with it? In Sophie we knew the context of the paste target so we knew if the target wanted Image data or Text data. I'm not sure if in Pharo with a Form handy we know what to do with it? Oh and just to complicate things, little do you know but Microsoft Word for example sticks *lots* on the clipboard when you copy text from it. A slight list would be html rtf utf8 text unicode text utf16 macroman ascii (more MS types) Oh and a JPEG/PNG/TIFF of the page! This is a hassle since on the paste we have both an image and text, which do you want? Plus if you copy an image out of Word you get both the Image, oh and a text description of the image. -- = = = ======================================================================== John M.
