I haven't visited the Orge site long ago, i found an interesting news, that they switching license to MIT! The motivation & conclusions why they decided to switch are very interesting: --- citation --- Wonât this mean people can ârip offâ OGRE in proprietary software? The LGPL already allowed OGRE to be used in proprietary software, and this is something weâve always encouraged. The main difference between the LGPL and the MIT License is that there is no requirement to release modified source code; only to include our copyright and the MIT license text in the final product. While not requiring modified source to be released might initially seem like giving up an important motivator to contribute code back to the community, weâve noticed something in recent years: 99% of useful code contributions come from people who are motivated to participate in the project regardless of what the license tells them they have to do. Itâs our experience that a certain percentage of the user community will always participate and contribute back, and therefore encouraging adoption via simpler licensing is likely to result in more contributions overall than coersion via complex and restrictive licensing does. [Pharo-project] Opening image multiple times - bug or feature?

Hello all, I'm getting Ubuntu configured on my new $400 laptop, and just noticed that I can load one Pharo image at least twice w/o any error messages. Is that good or bad? I'm inclined to say it is bad, with caveats below. I mentioned caveats: I have mixed feelings about Pharo's emulated/MDI GUI. There have been (rare) times when it would have been nice to be able to do something similar on Dolphin. If there is a reason to run multiple IDEs on one box, having them clearly separated by a single main window has some advantages. Bill

Inspectors on an object foo say "foo on NewInspector" in the title. They should just say "foo". Workspaces say "Shout Workspace"; that's an implementation detail. I put a changeset in the bug database to fixes these annoyances. (Issue 1245) Andrew

[Pharo-project] Help with Rotating a Box

I've been playing with a Morphic implementation of "Joe the box" for an intro programming course. It shouldn't be hard, right? The problem is rotation. It's easy to rotate a polygon morph, but I can't get a TextMorph (for the name) to rotate and stay centered. My next attempt (attached), was to use a transformation morph. This almost works, except that when rotating from a non-manhattan orientation, smurfs get left on the display. The code is attached. I try doing this in a workspace: joe := NamedBoxMorph2 new. joe name: 'Fred'. joe openInWorld. joe color: Color lightBlue. joe turn: -45. joe turn: 45. Do the joe turn: +/- 45 a few times. Bits of the rectangle are left on the display. Is this a bug in morphic, or a bug in my code (more likely)? Is tehre an easy fix/ The critical method from the filein is this one, I think: BoxMorph2 >> initialize "initialize this BoxMorph so that it looks like a Box in BoxWorld" | rectangle b | super initialize. smoothing := 3. b := Rectangle origin: 85 @ 200 extent: 80 @ 80. rectangle := RectangleMorph new. rectangle bounds: b. rectangle color: Color transparent. rectangle borderWidth: 1. self addMorphCentered: rectangle. self bounds: b. I tired making the bounds of the boxMorph a pixel or two bigger (in the last line): this didn't help. Any ideas? Andrew

Hi: I am trying to evaluate a Smalltalk condenseChanges but I am getting a 'Invalid utf8 input detected' This seems to be this bug: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=830 but that bug seems to be fixed. I can still reproduce it. Can anyone confirm this ? I attach log. Cheers, Mariano

Can we add some more (in the Pharo's spirit of getting at a better Smalltalk): '1.0e+2' "now returns 1.0 although for simmetry should return 100.0" '1E2' "now returns 1, however a lot of applications (like spreadsheets, Fortran printouts) when saving to text use the capital letter for the exponential part".
