I wonder if we should throw a deprecated message in Pharo 1.0 when somebody tries to compile a method with an underscore assignment? I would like to make it possible to use underscore characters in selectors and identifiers in Pharo 1.1. Cheers, Lukas -- Lukas Renggli http://www.lukas-renggli.ch

Is there a way to control what the Monticello's Merge tool merges? I mean, if there is a conflict you can decide what to do, but sometimes there are no conflicts (like for example removing a class) and there is no way to tell it not to merge that... Thanks Hernan.

[Pharo-project] implementors and senders when there is only one result

I always liked the sender/implementor/messages browser from Smalltalk MT. Attached is a screenshot. When one searches for sender in the normal browser this browser opens with a tree node "senders" and all the senders. If you click on one of the messages you can select "senders" again, or "implementors" or "messages" and go deeper. For instance you want to see the senders of #timeStamp and from the second hit you want to see all the other messages within this method and from there all implementors, ... It also provides a "local senders" and "local implementors" functionality (searching only within the class (hierarchy) itself) as you will find in most Smalltalks. Hello all, Attached is something that you might find helpful, and it's worth almost everything it cost you. The class comment briefly describes what it is supposed to do. Better ideas will be cheerfully stolen. For now, this seems to be helping me to find methods that I failed to package, avoids the "click several times per package" save process for MC (for which thanks, but it **is** tedious to use), should put an end to forgetting to save packages, and tries to automate loading code into a new image. On the latter, the thinking is that annoying messages are least annoying when presented early; it tries to grumble about silly stuff sooner rather than later; some of the checks might be excessive and other might be inadequate. Read the code before deciding whether you want to use it. Bill CONFIGURE ========= Configure it using #homeGrownPackageNames and #me to tell it which packages are intended to hold your work, and how to identify you from the (misnomer!!!) #timeStamp aspects of the compiled methods you produce. SAVE YOUR WORK ============== Use #suspectMethodsReport to produce a listing of class>>selector names that might be in danger of being orphaned in your current image. Use #homeGrownPackgesSaveWithMessage: to save all of the identified home grown packages in the next version and with the common text message. BUILD A NEW IMAGE ================= Load GatorLoader into a new image. It wants underscore_madness.cs, and loads SIXX and other packages of interest to me; you can edit as needed to remove what you do not want to load. Put your packages in the cache directory for the new image. Yes, it is fussy about these things, but the idea is to find errors early rather than being stopped after a long wait. Likewise, if you do not like what #setPreferences does, edit it.

Hi folks! Is out there some Google Code gurÃº ? The thing is this: there are a lot of pages for the test results. For example, TestResult10477, TestResult10481, etc. So...the amount of pages is too much. It is difficult to find something. I tried to see if there was a way to hide some pages from http://code.google.com/p/pharo/w/list but I couldn't find anything. Does someone have an idea how to fix this? Best, Mariano

Suspecting power management, I disabled putting the display to sleep, and have not had a problem since. The package manager crashed once on my laptop, so I do not rule out problems with the Koala. (a) if you have configured your vm to use a limited amount of memory and you enter a recursive loop the VM likely will thrash thru the available memory in a small number of milliseconds on a fast machine then exit(). I believe by default it's 1GB, but if there is no paging involved to find 1GB of ram it can happen quite quickly. (b) Older unix/linux vm are susceptible to crashing if they expand image memory over the 2GB address boundary. I can't say exactly what version that would be, but if you supply the build information for your VM SmalltalkImage current getSystemAttribute: 1004 and SmalltalkImage current getSystemAttribute: 1006 That might give a clue to if the fixes for the problem are in the VM you are using.
