[Pharo-project] [BUG]UndefinedObject(Object)>>doesNotUnderstand: #<

I got a recent dev-image and ran some tests (all CollectionTests if this matter) and attempted to store the result. 30 November 2009 5:26:40 pm VM: Win32 - IX86 - NT - Squeak3.10.2 of '5 June 2008' [latest update: #7179] Image: PharoCore1.0rc1 [Latest update: #10498] SecurityManager state: Restricted: false FileAccess: true SocketAccess: true Working Dir E:\Pharo Trusted Dir E:\Pharo\Cesar S. [Pharo-project] Rollback with code critic in a Pharo web image
by Alexandre Bergel Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

Hi! I selected a number of packages in a pharo web image 9.11.4 (Seaside + Pier) and tried to run code critic, but an error is raised: In WAChangesStateWhileRenderingRule>>initialize there is the statement: matcher := ParseTreeSearcher new. ParseTreeSearcher is not defined, new is therefore sent to nil. Looks like a package is missing. Cheers, Alexandre -- _,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;: Alexandre Bergel http://www.bergel.eu ^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;.

[Pharo-project] Feature request: Waiting cursor on load
by Johan Fabry Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

Hi All, finally able to get going on Pharo, I wanted to load Moose. I got the ConfigurationOfMoose package, and run the loadDefault method. I have no problem with a 'load' taking for ever, I know I am on the other side of the ocean. But please change the cursor to a 'wait' cursor while doing the load. It takes a loooooooong time before the first progress bar shows, I almost panicked. And now a progress bar just dissapeared, but there is still nothing I can do. The 'wait' cursor would go a long way in easing my mind. And it's probably just one line of code ... -- Johan Fabry jfabry(a)dcc.uchile.cl - http://dcc.uchile.cl/~jfabry PLEIAD Lab - Computer Science Department (DCC) - University of Chile

[Pharo-project] Fwd: [squeak-dev] Updated trunk image
by Stéphane Ducasse Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

Hi guys I would really like that we have a look at the squeak improvement lists and see the ones that could be interesting for pharo. Note that some of them are already included in pharo. Stef > From: Andreas Raab <andreas.raab(a)gmx.de> > Date: November 15, 2009 12:18:01 AM GMT+01:00 > To: The general-purpose Squeak developers list <squeak-dev(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org> > Subject: [squeak-dev] Updated trunk image > Reply-To: The general-purpose Squeak developers list <squeak-dev(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org> > > Folks - > > I've uploaded an updated trunk image at > > http://ftp.squeak.org/trunk/Squeak3.10.2-Trunk-091114.zip > > Since there were some complaints recently that it's difficult to follow the commit messages, below is the "What's New" (also in the above image) which is a summarized version of the main changes. > > Cheers, > - Andreas > > This is a list of the main achievements that went into the trunk image. > The list is in reverse chronological order, newest additions on the top: > > Kernel > ------ > Support for isolation layers has been retired. "self-evaluation" as a concept has been removed since every object can be forced to be self-evaluating by asking for its storeString. > > Projects > -------- > Project refactoring are an ongoing process. Project itself has been split into Project / MVCProject / MorphicProject such that Project itself is abstract and various requests are handled properly in the subclasses. > > Collections > ----------- > Several improvements have been added to Collections. Sets have become faster, Arrays now print in brace form by default, Dictionary>>keys return an array instead of a set. > > Monticello > ---------- > Various load-order issues have been fixed within Monticello, making loading of packages more robust. Monticello and PackageInfo have been sped up in several areas making browsing of large repositories significantly faster. > > Faster UTF-8 Conversions > ------------------------ > Generalize trick from ByteString>>#squeakToUtf8 to every converter using class instance variables. No more littering Preferences; you can now define preferences local to your class and store the values in regular class variables. [Pharo-project] MPEG in Pharo depricated why?
by Torsten Bergmann Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

>it requires FFI in the image, did we decide FFI and Alien should be in Pharo? >I think that is an open question. FFI not in the core - but maybe in the dev-image. Alien is AFAIK still not avaible for all major platforms >(b) I couldn't find any WIndow's users to help test it. Perhaps they don't exist? I use pharo/squeak on windows but I'm not a sophie user. There are other "pharo on windows" users too ... so just post and I'm sure you will find someone who is able to try out things. Even if windows may not be the typical dev platform for most of us it is still the largest consumer platform for commercial apps. [Pharo-project] ocompletion usability
by Tudor Girba Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

Hi, OCompletion certainly improved the coding experience in Pharo. But, I have a couple of usability suggestions with OCompletion to make it better. It would be great if someone (Romain? :)) could act on them: 1. Right now, OCompletion is triggered both by Tab and by Enter. It should be only Tab. Here is the reason. When I have a cascade, I want to have the methods starting from the next line, like this: browser mondrian title: 'Something'; painting: [:view ... ] So, after I type browser mondrian, I naturally want to press Enter. However, there exists a method called mondrianAnnounce:, and when I press Enter it gets filled in. So, the intent of Enter should be similar to that of Space: just as a whitespace. Tab is a good choice for triggering the completion because we basically only use Tabs only in a new line where the completion does not apply. 2. When no completion is offered and I press tab, I do get some list. Why is this not offered by default? Is it because it is slower? Is it because it is the regular ECompletion and that is not useful? 3. The completion is triggered only when typing, but not when removing characters. I believe it would be better if it followed me all the time. 4. When I want to navigate through the offered list using the down arrow the look changes and the items become wider. In fact, the same appears when I force completion by pressing Tab, so this leads me to believe that the change in the look is given by the change from O to E completion. The look should remain the same. Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "If you interrupt the barber while he is cutting your hair, you will end up with a messy haircut."

[Pharo-project] Where to put removed stuff?
by Simon Denier Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

Hi there I think this has been discussed before, but I cant tell if there is an official rule for that (maybe it could be added to the wiki). So let's say I have a patch which removes the Collection arithmetic protocols (332). Now this protocol is still quite nice and we can offer it as an extension package for those who need it. Where should I put this Collection-Arithmetic package? In its own squeaksource project? Or is there a project for extra packages for Pharo? -- Simon

[Pharo-project] pharo and db support
by Tudor Girba Nov. 30, 2009

Nov. 30, 2009

Hi, I would like to collect a list of the solutions to link Pharo with existing databases. I am interested in both relational and in object databases. Is there a list somewhere? If not and if you know/use/develop/ such a solution, it would be great if we could put it together by collecting some data about these: - Pharo project and version - Supported database vendor and version - Maturity: prototype/production ready/ - Projects that use this one - Current development status and maintenance support (if any) - Website - Others Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "If you interrupt the barber while he is cutting your hair, you will end up with a messy haircut."
