[Pharo-project] Continuous Integration Server for Pharo?
by Bart Gauquie Dec. 2, 2009

Dec. 2, 2009

Dear all, I come from a Java world and there we use for instance : http://hudson-ci.org/ to do a continuous integration build. Which means all latest code gets updated, all test ran & if build successful, the code is tagged (so you can take the code again from a successful build). It also provides a nice GUI, and lets you inspect previous builds, the results from that build, ... . In Pharo, I did not directly find an alternative, and therefor, also as an exercise, I tried to build one myself. The primitive, but working result so far is: http://www.squeaksource.com/BuildBot. This project depends on BBProjectDescription, which defines class BBBuildProjectDescription with defines: - BBBuildProjectDescription>>allProjectPackageNames - BBBuildProjectDescription>>installLatestWithDependencies - BBBuildProjectDescription>>buildsClassToPutVersionsOn What buildbot then does is using a BBBuildProjectDescription , checkout all latest code, run the tests for all these packages & , if successfull, take the buildsClassToPutVersionsOn and add a new method on it, describing the exact package numbers : for instance: BuildBotMockProjectBuilds class >> packagesForBuild20091127102654 ^#(('TODO' -> 'TODO-BKBAG.5.mcz') ('BuildBtMockProject' -> 'BuildBtMockProject-BartGauquie.7.mcz') ). Using this information I can easily install this exact version. Furthermore creating a release is then just creating for instance a class BuildBotMockProjectReleases with: BuildBotMockProjectReleasesclass >> release_1_0 ^BuildBotMockProjectBuilds packagesForBuild20091127102654 I am in fact 'tagging' a group packages that belong together and work together. So I can rollout this exact versions of the packages to some image automatically. However, Today I noticed that there already existed a project: http://www.squeaksource.com/TestServerSimple which more or less does the same thing. The only thing it does not do, or I did not find it, is to version the build, so that you can restore a project again ; a project which is consisting of a number of packages which are compatible and for which all tests ran. Is there a way to do that in TestServerSimple? Furthermore, are there any other projects that do a similar thing I'm not aware of? Is there any default way in Pharo to build a project which consists of multiple packages that each have different versions? I've seen MetaCello & Gofer as some other way 2 load groups of packages, but no integration into some kind of ci tool. This kind of automated ci server seems 2 me an essential tool in Pharo. [Pharo-project] lukas-renggli.ch down, mirrors exists ?
by laurent laffont Dec. 2, 2009

Dec. 2, 2009

Hello, I want to check if there's updates to Slime package as I faces several bugs but sources.lukas-renggli.ch seems to be down. Is there a mirror ? About the bugs (Slime-lr.24,current pharo rc1 web image), when I select refactor > code critics: - it seems that ParserTreeSearcher has been renamed to RBParserTreeSearcher. Thus there's several errors like WAChangesStateWhileRenderingRule>>initialize (ParseTreeSearcher is Undeclared) - this done, I have the error: AnObsoleteParseTreeSearcher(Object)>>doesNotUnderstand: #executeTree:initialAnswer: (from RBAssignmentIfTrueRule>>checkMethod:) How do I save a stack trace to a text file (or clipboard) from the debugger ? Regards, Laurent Laffont

[Pharo-project] MessageNotUnderstood: RBParser>>initializeParserWith:type:
by Mariano Martinez Peck Dec. 2, 2009

Dec. 2, 2009

Hi! I have a problem trying to extract a piece of code to a method. To reproduce: 1) Select the piece of code to extract 2) Right button -> "refactor source" -> "extract method" 3) Select a name and press enter. Then you will raise the exception MessageNotUnderstood: RBParser>>initializeParserWith:type: I a tested in PharoCore-1.1-11053-ALPHA and pharo1.0-10496-rc1dev09.11.5 (using the default browser). I opened the bug ticket: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=1532 I attach also the full stacktrace. Cheers Mariano

[Pharo-project] Running all tests in core 11065?
by Simon Denier Dec. 2, 2009

Dec. 2, 2009

Did someone manage to run all the tests in the latest core image (11065, updated from 11053). I try to compare the state of tests before/after some changes, but in both cases the test runner got stuck around 1600 tests. -- Simon

[Pharo-project] Problem with streams and files :(
by Mariano Martinez Peck Dec. 1, 2009

Dec. 1, 2009

Hi folks! I know very little about streams and files, so maybe is quite stupid my problem. Try to evaluate this code: |segment| segment := ImageSegment new. segment copyFromRoots: (Array with: 'something') sizeHint: 100000 areUnique: true. segment segmentName: 'segmenttest'. (ImageSegment segmentDirectory newFileNamed: 'whatever') nextPutAll: segment segment. You will raise the error: "Improper store into indexable object" So, I am using a MultiByteFileStream and I am trying to write a WordArrayForSegment. I don't understand MultiByteFileStream>>nextPut: aCharacter because it does: nextPut: aCharacter aCharacter isInteger ifTrue: [^ super nextPut: aCharacter]. xxxx....xxxxx And super is MultiByteFileStream >> nextPut: aChar which does buffer1 at: 1 put: char. But here, char is not a char, but 1929386344 which is a LargePositiveInteger and then, of course, it fails when it does buffer1 at: 1 put: char. So, does someone have an idea of what can be wrong ? Thanks a lot in advance, Mariano

[Pharo-project] External integers
by Schwab,Wilhelm K Dec. 1, 2009

Dec. 1, 2009

Hello all, Dolphin defines ExternalInteger and various subclasses such as DWORD under ExternalStructure. I will oscillate between caring about the details (for FFI uses??) and simply wanting the classes in the image to pacify my code. Is there a correct way to deal with such things? Not seeing anything, I created ExternalInteger that uses a ByteArray and DWORD under it, acting as a glorified value holder. Please let me know if I am missing an existing solution. Bill
