[Pharo-project] [BetaTesting] [ANN] Pharo1.0-10505-rc1dev10.01.1
by Mariano Martinez Peck Jan. 27, 2010

Jan. 27, 2010

Hi Folks/Beta-Testers! I have prepare a new PharoDev image. This image, has same differences with the previous ones that you should know: 1) This is the first Dev image I ever prepare. I adapt to Mac OS Damien's bash scripts to build them and I also cleanup all the Squeak stuff from those bash scripts. So, maybe there are some problems. Forgive me if this is the case. I would like you to check, not only the Image in itself but also the zip. The package.txt, changelog, the fonts, etc. 2) This image puts TrueType fonts again. We won't put StrikeFonts or DejaVu package until there is big bug with them. We know those fonts are faster, but still a bit buggy. If you fix those issues, cool! 3) This image DOES NOT include O2. I know there are a lot of people who use it (mostly in Moose), but unfortunately, this was a decision taken. O2 depends and overrides OB making this more unstable sometimes. The same as the TrueType, we will put O2 again when this can be perfectly load in a PharoCore image without anything about OB. Sorry, but we rather affect only O2 users and not all. If you want packages support, then help in O2 development. 4) In previous Dev images only tests from PharoCore were included. Now, it also includes the tests from the external packages loaded. 5) This image was build using Metacello configurations. If you want, compare the installScript.st from this image to the previous one. 6) There is no Web image this time. If you want to install Seaside 2.8.4 evaluate: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfSeaside28'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfSeaside28) load And if you want Seaside 3.0 evaluate: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfSeaside30'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfSeaside30) loadLatestVersion However, I am not sure if this is perfectly working in Pharo. Ok .... Here is the link: https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/25156/pharo1.0-10505-rc1dev10.01.1… I will wait a couple of days now and I will also start to use this image for my development. If there are issues, report them. If we have big issues, this image is not release. On the other hand, if it works well, we release it.

[Pharo-project] Texture rendering into shared memory?
by Lawson English Jan. 27, 2010

Anyone ever use the OpenGL shared memory texture rendering with squeak? I have potential uses for it, but its hard to map the squeak way unto the C source examples, expecially when squeak seems to be doing so much behind the scenes already. Lawson

First - we talked about ScriptManager and it is nice that we now have it as MIT. We can use it. OK nice tool. Second: Joseph also suggested Ginsu - and since it's not available I asked if it is possible to make it public to see if it is of any use. Maybe it is usefull to someone or parts of its code base. I DONT KNOW since I dont have it and dont know how good it actually is/what problems it solves. At least it is not of of any use when it is closed - thats why I asked for opening the code. Nothing more. I did not recommend it as the "next" package management system. I just want to see all options and ideas to form an own (unified?) vision... [Pharo-project] Fwd: Google Summer of Code 2010 is On......
by Janko Mivšek Jan. 27, 2010

Jan. 27, 2010

Hi guys! Google Summer of Code (GSC) is approaching and we need to apply of course. Big question is, how. As one, as three, as ten applicants? I would rather not divide us too much for GSC so I propose to go as one, but how? Because an organization/project needs to apply, not the consortion of organizations ... Or there is maybe an exception? Janko -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Google Summer of Code 2010 is On...... Date: Tue, 26 Jan 2010 16:09:25 -0800 (PST) From: LH <lhospo(a)gmail.com> Reply-To: google-summer-of-code-discuss(a)googlegroups.com To: Google Summer of Code Discuss <google-summer-of-code-discuss(a)googlegroups.com> Hello everyone, Many of you were wondering if Google Summer of Code 2010 is on for 2010 and the answer is yes! We will begin accepting application from would-be mentoring organizations beginning March 8th at approximately 19:00 UTC, with applications closing on March 12th at 23:00 UTC. Students can apply between 19:00 UTC on March 29th to 19:00 UTC on April 9th. We will be updating the program website [0], including the FAQs [1], over the next few days. Not much is going to change except the timeline, though there are a few FAQs that will be added. If you have any questions in the interim please do send them to the list. Please note that questions about which project you should select, etc., will likely be responded to with "depends on your skill set," so please take the time to do some research [2] about which project is right for you. While mentoring organizations for 2010 will be announced until March 18th, a great number of the projects that have participated in the past [3] will return once again in 2010. Of course, that's not a guarantee and we cannot accept every great project that applies. But if you want to get a jump start on your participation in GSoC 2010, considering lurking in the IRC channel of a past participating project and seeing what useful things you can learn about their code base and community. Check out project forums to see if it's a place you'd like to spend your time. I'll be sending a follow up message in a few minutes about what to expect in the next few days/weeks and how you can help Google Summer of Code 2010. Google Summer of Code 2010 is on! Celebrate! I had used code specs in Smalltalk, similar to the specs Alan Knight and I describe in the ENVY book. Saves you needing an XML parser in the base image. [Pharo-project] How can I change the size of the World ?
by Mariano Martinez Peck Jan. 26, 2010

Jan. 26, 2010

Hi folks. Actually, I a not sure if what I want is to change the size of the World, but the size of the windows. The problem is this: the PharoCore images, when I open them, they have a little size by default. I always need to make them bigger. I have to do the same with the Dev images. So, I would like to do that from Smalltalk side and add it to my scripts to build dev images. Is this possible ? how ? I looked in Display and World, but I didn't find what I need. Cheers Mariano
