Is there an event when the Squeak window is resized, so one can react and resize morphs accordingly? Thx T. -- NEU: Mit GMX DSL über 1000,- ¿ sparen! http://portal.gmx.net/de/go/dsl02

[Pharo-project] Object >> toFinalizeSend:to:with:
by Henrik Johansen Feb. 19, 2010

Feb. 19, 2010

The two uses I've seen of this method (RequiredSelectors>>registerLifelongInterestOf:inAll: in Core, and AXWeakSubscription in AXAnnouncements on SqueakSource) have used this as a poor mans replacement for ephemerons. The problem is it does not work the way these senders expect (ie: registering an action for each resource to be taken when the receiver is finalized), but only executes the last action registered for an object. Would it be an idea to change the implementation to conform to the expectations of the senders, rather than considering the uses as bugs, seeing as how that seems to be the common usage? (And a quite more useful one in the absence of real ephemerons, if you ask me) Cheers, Henry

Re: [Pharo-project] Class Browser
by Lukas Renggli Feb. 19, 2010

Feb. 19, 2010

> Where is there documentation to be found describing the meaning of > list entry icons (on left side of lists) in the Class Browser? Classes have icons depending on their type. The exception are tests which have a bullet with the SUnit result color of the last run, or gray if there is no data is available. Methods have a green arrow pointing upwards if there is a super implementation, and a green arrow pointing downwards if there are sub implementations. You can click on these icons to see the hierarchy and navigate to the actual implementations of these methods. If the method is flagged a blue flag is displayed instead. If there is a breakpoint a red flag is displayed instead. Finally, if this is a test method, then a bullet with the SUnit result color is displayed. Depending on what you have loaded in your image you might see different icons. Packages can override #browserIcon and #browserIcon:selector: to add custom icons for classes and methods. Seaside for example does that. Lukas -- Lukas Renggli http://www.lukas-renggli.ch

[Pharo-project] Class Browser
by Torsten Bergmann Feb. 19, 2010

Feb. 19, 2010

Hi Anthony, I guess there is no documentation (refcard or the like) since the icon may change and are specific to the OB Browser. You can even have your own. Since Smalltalk is very, very dynamic it is often the case that it is much easier to look at the system itself than to ask for up to date documentation. For the icons you should search for the implementors of the method #browserIcon. You can do this using "Tools" -> "MethodFinder". In my image I have - Collection and subclasses (three objects) - Exception and subclasses (a flash) - Magnitude and subclasses (a sum sign) - Morph and subclasses (a morph) - OBAnnouncement and subclasses (a bubble) - String and subclasses (a paragraph sign) - TestCase and subclasses (dynamic icon, depend on the sucess of running the test green, yellow or red) The implementation in TraitDescription and ClassDescription who return a blank icon just assure that there is no icon displayed for traits and classes by default. If you want to know about the inner workings of this mechanism: The #browserIcon returns a symbol that is a method selector on class OBMorphicIcon returning the icon using a form instance. Just have a look at class OBMorphicIcon. To implement an own icon on your class: - create an icon (typical 12x12) in your paint program and save it as PNG or GIF - use the following snippet to generate code from the image: | image stream | image := ColorForm fromFileNamed: '/path/to/icon.gif'. stream := WriteStream with: String new. image storeOn: stream. stream contents inspect. - create an "icon" method by pasting this code in a custom extension method on OBMorphicIcon (put it in a method category with * and the name of your Monticello package). For instance the "OB-SUnitIntegration" package does just this by providing the test case icons in a method category "*ob-sunitintegration" on class OBMorphicIcon. If this is still magic for you, you should learn about Monticello source code packaging using "pharobyexample.org" - implement #browserIcon on you custom class to return the selector of your "icon method" If in doubt, just ask. Stef, Few weeks ago you said you will meet some layers at inria to know whether something like ESUG may be set for Pharo. Do you have any news? I am just curious. [Pharo-project] Is there a public repository that we can put our work
by Nathan Tuttle Feb. 19, 2010

Feb. 19, 2010

The default one MCHttpRepository location: 'http://www.squeaksource.com/' user: 'squeak' password: 'squeak' doesn't seem to work. I don't mind hosting my own, but I am definitely a noob at squeak source control.

[Pharo-project] Keyboard events issue on Mac VM
by Pavel Krivanek Feb. 18, 2010

Feb. 18, 2010

Hi, The Mac OS virtual machine has wrong processing of keyUp and keyDown events. It discards event character value. This events are very rarely used (keyStroke is preferred) so there`s no surprise that it was not reported before. See http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=1995 Cheers, -- Pavel
