[Pharo-project] [Pharo-users] RB AST serialization
by Daniel Galdames April 27, 2010

April 27, 2010

Hi, I'm working on a serialization of a RB AST, is in a very very earlier state, it can encode simple ASTs into a string but today i changed the encode methods, so now you can't decode the generated string :-P .Some node from AST-Core can't be encoded yet (RBPragmaNode, RBArrayNode, RBLiteralArrayNode) because I'm not sure what to encode, and the nodes aren't documented, at least in Pharo 1.0. Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated!! :-) I uploaded the code in squeaksource: http://www.squeaksource.com/AstSerializer.html I'm a bit new to Smalltalk and Pharo, so feel free to comment... Greetings, Daniel Galdames G.

[Pharo-project] Behavior of Rectangle
by Alexandre Bergel April 27, 2010

April 27, 2010

Dear List, I spend quite some time in tracking down a bug in Mondrian. I found it. The source of it stems from the following behavior in Pharo: -=-=-=-=-=-= (0@0 corner: 10@10) containsPoint: 5@5. => true (10@10 corner: 0@0) containsPoint: 5@5. => false -=-=-=-=-=-= I find the latter a bit surprising. VW returns false as well. I would expect the second expression to return true. There is also "(10@0 corner: 0@10) containsPoint: 5@5. => false" I looked in the Pharo mailing list archive, and apparently this hasn't been discussed yet. The class Rectangle is central. Modifying it (either by making "(10@10 corner: 0@0) containsPoint: 5@5" returns true or not permitting a rectangle "(10@10 corner: 0@0)" to be valid) may have some serious impact. What do you think? Cheers, Alexandre -- _,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;: Alexandre Bergel http://www.bergel.eu ^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;._,.;:~^~:;.

[Pharo-project] SandstoneDb infos
by laurent laffont April 27, 2010

April 27, 2010

Hi, Ramon Leon brings some clarification on SandstoneDb, good to know: ( http://pharocasts.blogspot.com/2010/04/sandstonedb-simple-activerecord-styl… ) If you'd like to avoid restarting the image when you create subclasses, you can just run SDCheckPointer startUp: true. This is what happens at image startup that ensures all the directories exist and reloads the database. Also, just FYI, you don't need to make all biz objects active records, had the tweets just been an Object subclass, they would have been save with the Person in the same file as the Person atomically. Of course, then the only way to get the tweets would be through the person, since it'd be the aggregate root for that aggregate object cluster. Anyway, nice screencast. [Pharo-project] making O/Ecompletion even better
by Stéphane Ducasse April 26, 2010

April 26, 2010

Hi romain Often when I edit code, the completion works well but I end up been forced to delete part of the text manually. Here is the scenario classDefinedSelector foo... ^ cursor Then I type meta the system proposes me metaclassDefinedSelector I type enter and I get metaclassDefinedSelector classDefinedSelector foo ^ so I have to remove by hand classDefinedSelector. So it would be good if we could eat the current text when doing the substitution. Am I the only one getting such behavior? Stef

[Pharo-project] (no subject)
by Alwin Lin April 26, 2010

April 26, 2010

Hi everyone! I'm a student learning to use smalltalk. I want to get the results from a C code program. I have searched a lot about this question on the internet, it seems i need to use a package called "alien" or something like FFI. But until now, I still don't have any concrete idea about how to do it. Could anyone please just tell me some examples about this question. Some simple source codes would be really appreciated. Thanks alot. Sincerely Xin Lin

Hi all We appreciate feedback and request now to avoid us to be flooded here is a proposal. - It does not really make sense to comment on 1.0 without checking 1.1 We will not change 1.0. So better check 1.1 - We do not have that many resources so if you want something, it is also important that you see how you can help. May be you do not know directly the topic but by helping on another front, people may have more time for this one. - Bugs can be entered for 1.0 but again check 1.1 because only REALLY severe bugs will get fixed in 1.0. [Pharo-project] [ANN] Pharocasts: SandstoneDb (with subtitles !)
by laurent laffont April 26, 2010

April 26, 2010

Hi, I've just uploaded a new screencast which introduces SandstoneDb (and also HelpSystem). http://pharocasts.blogspot.com/2010/04/sandstonedb-simple-activerecord-styl… Note this is my first one with subtitles. There's a link so you can download it and translate it (some people have asked for that). I've used SubtitleEditor (http://home.gna.org/subtitleeditor/) but I don't really like it. Do you know a better software on Linux ? The video is accelerated, it's more dynamic IMHO ( to do this in avidemux, just go in video menu, framerate, and put a higher framerate). <http://pharocasts.blogspot.com/2010/04/sandstonedb-simple-activerecord-styl…> Cheers, Laurent Laffont

[Pharo-project] Need your help filling a FAQ
by Igor Stasenko April 26, 2010

April 26, 2010

Hello guys, i'm currently writing a documentation for my project - NativeBoost. The work is based on a simple plugin which i wrote, which allows to run a native code from Squeak. The native code is attached to a compiled method itself (into its trailer), and so lives within an image. The plugin can run this code through a single primitive, which knows how to do it right. Actually VM requires very small changes to support that. The bulk of the work lies at the language side. I'm currently working on making FFI callout support interface which will support many cool things, comparing to usual FFIPlugin. :) I'd like to know, what details you want to know about it (tautology ;) , so i will compose the FAQ along with other details about project. P.S. Google became too smart :) Once i clicked 'send' button, its shows a message box: Did you mean to attach files? You wrote "is attached" in your message, but there are no files attached. Send anyway? -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.
