[Pharo-project] Help System
by Torsten Bergmann May 8, 2010

>In addition to the story around tests, Could you be a little bit more specific what your wishes are for using tests within the help documentation? It's still not clear to me what you expect here. >Torsten do you think we could use book.pharo-project.org to populate the help? Dont know how the pier books are implemented. Is it possible to access/parse the contents either on the server or directly online from a client image? If so then yes, as the following example demonstrates: |topic day url sub| topic := HelpTopic named: 'Last week on Squeak IRC'. 0 to: 7 do: [:index | day := (Date today subtractDays: index) printFormat: #(3 2 1 $. 1 2 2). url := 'http://tunes.org/~nef/logs/squeak/' , day. sub := HelpTopic title: day contents: (HTTPLoader default retrieveContentsFor: url) contents. topic addSubtopic: sub. ]. [Pharo-project] could we start to organize MetacelloRepository?
by Stéphane Ducasse May 8, 2010

May 8, 2010

Hi Dale and others I would like to have a Pharo1.0 folder in the MetacelloRepository and ideally all the configurationOf... inside should work for Pharo 1.0. How can we proceed to get that. In the future we should also have a process to avoid that we get junk inside. any idea (I was thinking about an hudson server that would validate the configuration automatically) Stef

Re: [Pharo-project] another fun case for Linked>>add:

In the latter situation I ask: why are you using an automatic garbage collected language such as Smalltalk? I expect the performance of OrderedCollections used as stacks or queues to be good compared to linked lists. [Pharo-project] Set + collect:
by Germán Leiva May 7, 2010

May 7, 2010

Hi, this is my first post (please be gentle xD) The *#collect:* message commonly return a new collection like the receiver, but this is really unpractical in some cases e.g. col := Set with: 'one'->1 with: 'two'->2 with: 'dos'->2. (col collect: [:each | each value ]) sum In this example *#sum* will return 3 *instead of 5* (I searched a test for * #sum* but I didn´t find it). Ok, I can use the message *#asBag* (or something like that) but does the second line have to depend on the type of the receiver (i.e. the type of col )? For example, the implementation of* #collect:* in SortedCollection returns an OrderedCollection (in the current image) and in other dialects the message *#collect:* when the receiver is a Set returns a Bag ... Basically, what do you think of an implementation like this? Set >> collect: aBlock *"Evaluate aBlock with each of the receiver's elements as the argument. Collect the resulting values into a Bag. Answer the new collection."* | newBag | newBag := *Bag *new: self size. array do: [:each | each ifNotNil: [newBag add: (aBlock value: each)]]. ^ newBag Cordially, -- Germán Leiva LeivaGerman(a)gmail.com

[Pharo-project] Settings Browser
by Geert Claes May 7, 2010

May 7, 2010

I have to say that the new Settings Browser in 1.1 is a huge improvement over the old Preference Browser. It's just that I can't seem to figure out how to save the settings I have changed? I did noticed the "Style > New/Update/Load/Browse/Remove". I managed to create a new style, but when selecting "Style>Update" I get this tiny window titled "Choose" with a wee white box and a Cancel button? Am I missing something? ps. What is the "Blab email" in the Network section? http://n4.nabble.com/file/n2132539/Settings_Browser.png -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Settings-Browser-tp2132539p2132539.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

[Pharo-project] Class variable
by Hilaire Fernandes May 7, 2010

May 7, 2010

When I look at the class NaturalLanguageTranslator, I see the class method allKnownPhrases refering a class variable AllKnownPhrases, however I don't see this variable defined in the class nor in the ancestor. How can it be? Hilaire

[Pharo-project] bug in the code of CompiledMethod >> =
by Cyrille Delaunay May 7, 2010

May 7, 2010

try in a Pharo-1.0-10515-rc3 image : |set| set := Set new. Collection withAllSubclasses do: [:aClass | set addAll: aClass methods ]. It will raise an exception telling: "MessageNotUnderstood: ByteSymbol>>analogousCodeTo:". Indeed, in the code of CompiledMethod >> = , the message 'analogousCodeTo:' is send to a symbol. by Hilaire Fernandes May 7, 2010

May 7, 2010

I have move in a Gettext package in PharoInbox classes for gettext support. Do not expect it to work. Some of the classes there, are just moved from former categories in pharo System-Localization and Multilingual other are coming from Etoys. I have not yet test to load it in a fresh image. Hilaire
