Of course, for a new comer, that "easy" may even be difficut, so don't worry ;) But you can help with a lot of things, not only fixing bugs. The first thing I would advice you, is that if you want to collaborate in Pharo development, you should register in "Pharo Development" < pharo-project(a)lists.gforge.inria.fr>. This mailing list is mostly for people that just want to use Pharo. In such mailing list, you will see and keep track of all the progress, problems, etc. One of the things to do is to test for example when someone commits a change or a fix and ask for testing/feedback. Just someone to say "it works here" or "it didn't work for me" are perfect. The same when someone creates an issue. Just saying "I could reproduce" is good. Then, you can help us and make a better documentation: the website, the FAQ, Pharo By Exmple (http://pharobyexample.org/) and the last pharo book: http://book.seaside.st/ You may want to read, review, give feedback, etc. Another cool way of learning is writing unit tests. You can collaborate writing unit tests and committing them. That's all I have in mind. I hope you join! [Pharo-project] Metacello questions
by Torsten Bergmann May 9, 2010

May 9, 2010

>Does that mean the documentation is just wrong then? I would see/interpret it like this: With the baseline you describe a set of packages (structure/dependencies) that form your app/project (MyApp). Beside the usual loading of a version: (ConfigurationOfMyApp project version: '1.0') load it is possible to load also a baseline - this would load all the latest Monticello package versions of any package described in this baseline: (ConfigurationOfMyApp project version: '1.0-baseline') load Note that in the baseline you dont say anything about the Monticello package version to use/load. In a baseline you can also define a dependency on another project (that provides a config too, for instance ConfigurationOfMyFoo). Now you have two options: a) dont say anything about the version of "ConfigurationOfMyFoo" in the baseline => this should load the latest version of Foo's Metacello configuration then, so you get the latest version of "Foo" when loading the baseline of MyApp b) you note/give a default version for "ConfigurationOfMyFoo" in the baseline => then this specific version of "Foo" is loaded when you load the baseline for MyApp. I think you can override the version specified in the baseline in a #versionXXX of MyApp if required Loading baselines is usefull if you work in a team. If you work on the same baseline you can just load it to be up to date with the latest commits of the other team members. If your dependencies, load order, set of packages/pre-projects change then you typically create a new baseline. But it is more often the case that you just create new versions based on a baseline. In a versionXXX you pin/mark the Metacello version of all packages/projects version that fit/work together to form this version. Maybe Dale is able to correct me if I'm wrong. [Pharo-project] Found it! [Was: A dog-slow browser ]
by Igor Stasenko May 9, 2010

May 9, 2010

Hello guys, sorry for resurrecting this topic, but i seem found the cause of it: - its an annotation pane, which makes browsing so slow! Right now i have two browser windows opened - one with annotation pane, and other is not. The amount of delay between selecting a particular method and showing it in a code pane is significant. Its even different in a look & feel: if you have annotation pane turned on, each time you selecting a different method, it turns mouse cursor to a hourglass for a moment, and then turns it back to arrow. And while in browser without annotation panes i can scroll through methods list without feeling any seeming delay, in window with annotation pane, its feel like a system using a pigeons to deliver a method's sources to me :) On 20 January 2010 18:28, Igor Stasenko <siguctua(a)gmail.com> wrote: > Please, don't take it as a offense, but as a constructive critics :) > > Pharo-core browser is awfully slooow! > That's why i prefer to develop in squeak trunk image. > Why it showing the distracting hourglass cursor when stepping over a > list of methods in method's list? > > (press and hold the up arrow key when inside a methods list)... damn.. > what happens there, that it consumes so much time > to just switch the source code in a single text pane? > > > -- > Best regards, > Igor Stasenko AKA sig. > -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

[Pharo-project] Where is my beloved annotation panes?
by Igor Stasenko May 9, 2010

May 9, 2010

Hi, guys, the first thing, which i always doing on fresh image is turning on the annotation panes, so i can always see the method's author and last modification date. I found that in newest pharo1.1.(11343) this option (as well as many others) is gone from preferences browser. Please, tell me that you didn't removed it, and this is only a temporary regression. -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

[Pharo-project] (igor) Help for 1.1: condenseChanges does not work anymore
by Stéphane Ducasse May 9, 2010

May 9, 2010

Hi We cannot do Smalltalk condenseChanges and this is a showStopper for 1.1 beta. http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=2367 After some hours of debugging, Lukas has the intuition that this is related to methodTrailer. I did some stupid tests... and apparently the problem occured between 11117 and 11128 If you take 11117 and run Utilities readServerUpdatesThrough: 3922 saveLocally: true updateImage: true and in a 11120 image Smalltalk condenseChanges is working. So the problem is somehow related to methodTrailer. Igor can you have a look?
