[Pharo-project] Pharocasts: Web application testing through Selenium-RC
by laurent laffont Aug. 8, 2010

Aug. 8, 2010

http://pharocasts.blogspot.com/2010/08/web-application-testing-through.html WebTester is a framework to test web applications. Designed to support several testing systems, it actually provides an implementation which uses Selenium RC. You can test a any web application with it; but if you are developing Seaside applications you can take a component (any component), and unit test that component. For me the cool part is that with this sort of tool it's easy to open the entreprise backdoor to Pharo. Pharo + WebTester can quickly integrate an existing (web) development based on other tools / languages. Christoph's voice should arrive soon. Cheers, Laurent Laffont http://pharocasts.blogspot.com/ http://magaloma.blogspot.com/

[Pharo-project] Instance variable pull up broken
by Niko Schwarz Aug. 8, 2010

Aug. 8, 2010

Here's a funny way to crash your image. Works in: Pharo-1.1-11367-Beta Latest update: #11367 Make a class named AbstractBla, with two subclasses: SubA, SubB. Then, add to both SubA and SubB the identically named instance variable: instVar. Now, use the "pull up" refactoring in OmniBrowser on SubA to pull up instVar into the superclass. As you correctly guess, that breaks SubB, because now both its superclass and SubB have an instance variable named instVar. But, instead of refusing to refactor, OmniBrowser dutifully refactors and takes the image with it. I hope that was understandable. [Pharo-project] Issue 2756: Morphic Cleansing - Remove use of findA:
by Guillermo Polito Aug. 7, 2010

Aug. 7, 2010

Hi, removing some findA: message sendings i've found: MenuMorph>>doButtonAction "Do the receiver's inherent button action. Makes sense for the kind of MenuMorph that is a wrapper for a single menu-item -- pass it on the the item" (self findA: MenuItemMorph) ifNotNil: [:aMenuItem | aMenuItem doButtonAction] And for me it doesn't make sense :). Even the comment doesn't make sense, because it isn't considering the case where a MenuMorph has multiple MenuItemMorph s. What should be done in cases like that? If it's my code, i should be tempted to delete it or maybe to deprecate it. And I'm really upset because it is a very difficult thing to verify not to break too much other things. So, what is the "official policy" about this cases? :P I don't like to leave it as it is... Cheers, Guille

[Pharo-project] Polymorph composites
by Schwab,Wilhelm K Aug. 7, 2010

Aug. 7, 2010

Hello, With no small push from Andreas (and Pharo in general), I have been able to build something that is pretty much exactly what I envisioned. That attached has some identifiers blocked out but hopefully conveys what I am trying to do. The draw/erase and square/circle buttons do what you would expect, and apply to a monochrome mask that is represented by the dotted pattern. The next step is to integrate this into a larger shell, and this is where either I have something to learn of Polymorph has room to grow. What you see should be (in Dolphin parlance) a CompositePresenter that can readily be embedded in other morphs/presenters/whatever-we-call-them. As it is, I get a jumbled mess unless I create this in a system or standard window :( The images naturally come in three interlaced sequences of pairs. It would be very natural to show multiple instances of this composite structure. Is there a way to re-use it w/o a shell? Bill

[Pharo-project] Poll: missing libraries to support business
by Stéphane Ducasse Aug. 7, 2010

Aug. 7, 2010

Hi guys with the experience around the XMLRPC project, ESUG wants to change strategy to help growing business at the technical level. So what are the key areas where you think that effort should be supported to help you making business in smalltalk? Stef

[Pharo-project] Is SystemChangeNotifier notifying about protocol changed (with what changed)?
by Stéphane Ducasse Aug. 7, 2010

Aug. 7, 2010

Hi guys I'm trying to work on the integration of the new Rapckage implementation and for this I'm trying to shield myself from event and building system anouncements.... Now when a protocol is added in a class, I get a reorganized event but I do not get the changed element.... And I checked and I see that: notifyOfChangedCategoriesFrom: oldCollectionOrNil to: newCollectionOrNil (self hasSubject and: [oldCollectionOrNil ~= newCollectionOrNil]) ifTrue: [SystemChangeNotifier uniqueInstance classReorganized: self subject]. Am I correct to think that systemNotification does not raised what changed :( arghhhhhhh Stef

[Pharo-project] about ToolBuilder
by stephane ducasse Aug. 7, 2010

Aug. 7, 2010

Hi guys during the sprint I discussed with Gary about ToolBuilder and we think that it would be better to remove it since a lot of new widgets are not covered so this means that we will be constantly limiting ourselves. Of course ToolBuilder is a nice idea (if we would have several UI framework). So far we got only one and we would have several we would have to take the smallest common denominator. Another idea would be to extend toolBuilder to support new widgets. So what do you think? Stef

[Pharo-project] Trying to combine two images
by Schwab,Wilhelm K Aug. 7, 2010

Aug. 7, 2010

Are there any good examples of using a mask to highlight portions of an image? I have an onion-skin effect in mind, but could live with almost anything that is easy to see and does not obliterate the underlying image. The goal is to paint a mask that will select irregular regions of an image. If I have a black and white mask, I can use #eraseShape: and #reverse to get two separate images, and I appear to be able to make the masked portion of one of them transpaent and can (not terribly well) highlight the masked portion of the other. Things quickly sprial down hill when I try to combine the two pieces. Any pointers would be appreciatiated. Bill

[Pharo-project] [ANN] Pharo Metacello Universes
by Torsten Bergmann Aug. 6, 2010

Aug. 6, 2010

Hi Miguel, hey, nice! If we follow this convention then it is easy to implement a universe browser that selects the correct universe repo and displays all loadable versions. Loading stuff should just be a few clicks away - I personally hate all this MC/Gofer typing ... Attached is a quick/simple implementation of such a browser: - file in the attached changeset (I tried in Pharo 1.2) - open via World menu -> "Universe Browser" - select the configuration you want and from the context menu choose -- "Load configuration" -> only the config is loaded -- "Load configuration and latest version" -> the config and lates version is loaded Have fun! I used Pharo 1.2 - should work in Pharo 1.0 and 1.1 too (havent tested). Bye T. -- GRATIS für alle GMX-Mitglieder: Die maxdome Movie-FLAT!
