[Pharo-project] quick question about refactoring scope
by aizcorbe Dec. 4, 2010

Dec. 4, 2010

Hi all, i have been working with Lint and traits on Pharo for some time, and i found something a little strange, if you select for a package/category refactoring scope>selection you get a new browser with just the classes on that package/category. Is there any reason for skipping the traits on the package or it is just a bug? Cheers ps: anyway i created a new "full selection" which also includes the contained traits on the new browser, if someone want it i could publish it to monticello -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/quick-question-about-refactoring-scope-tp3072683p3072… Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

[Pharo-project] Toolset vs UIManager
by Stéphane Ducasse Dec. 4, 2010

Dec. 4, 2010

I was reading the change of benjmain to deprecate notifyWithLabel: aString from Object. Yes! Now he was putting it on ToolSet and I thought that I would have put it on UIManager. Now the relationship and responsibility of this two classes are not clear to me. Does anybody a clear thought on that? Stef

[Pharo-project] [ANN] Swazoo has now WebSocket support
by Janko Mivšek Dec. 4, 2010

Dec. 4, 2010

Dear Smalltalkers, Past few days I worked on WebSocket implementation in Swazoo Smalltalk web server [1], in coordination with Philippe Marschall from Seaside [4] and Nicolas Petton from Iliad [5] devteams, so together with me from Aida/Web [3] our cooperation ensures that this implementation is ready to be adapted for all three main web frameworks. Why WebSocket? Because it will replace current Comet hacks to enable a bidirectional messaging between browser and web application, specially for web app to send something back to the browser without waiting for user to click something. Read a bit more about WebSocket here: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/introducing-web-sockets/ WebSocket as browser supported technology enables opening an always present channel, so that web app can send commands like update some element of the webpage at any time. That's why WebSocket is ideal for so called "real-time" web. You are invited to look at the code for Squeak/Pharo as Swazoo2.3beta1.1 at http://www.squeaksource.org/Swazoo.html A bit more about WebSocket in Swazoo: http://www.swazoo.org/websocket Best regards Janko Swazoo maintainer [1] Swazoo WebSocket support http://www.swazoo.org/websocket [2] Introducing WebSockets http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/introducing-web-sockets/ [3] Aida/Web http://www.aidaweb.si [4] Seaside http://www.seaside.st [5] Iliad http://www.iliadproject.org

[Pharo-project] Native windows on Pharo?
by andres Dec. 3, 2010

Dec. 3, 2010

Hi list! I think I finally can start a small in-house project in Pharo, which makes me quite happy since I've been willing to do so for some time now. I have however to solve an issue before: is there a way of using native windows instead of the emulated ones? The app I have to work on is pretty much based on having different independent windows floating around :(. I saw the Native Windows thread that dates back to 2009 and couldn't find more information on the subject, so any pointers are much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Andrés

[Pharo-project] Issue 3371 in pharo: problem with find & replace in PharoCore 1.2
by pharo＠googlecode.com Dec. 3, 2010

Dec. 3, 2010

Status: Accepted Owner: aplantec Labels: Milestone-1.2 New issue 3371 by aplantec: problem with find & replace in PharoCore 1.2 http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3371 From Mariano ----------------- I have a little bug. Suppose I search something, in this case, I serached the word "new" in testParagraphExtent Now...it shows all the "new" with a orange color. Perfect. But then I put cancel, I go to other methods, and it is still painting "new"!!! ;) I should do that when I change the method I guess, or when I press cancel. Last little thing is that it would be nice to have the find & replace like a popup, so that you can close it from the windows title in addition to "close" button. ------------------
