[Pharo-project] senders vs implementors
by Tudor Girba Jan. 12, 2011

Jan. 12, 2011

Hi, I think I encountered an error in allImplementorsOf:, but I am not quite sure and I wanted to run it by you first. If you evaluate (self systemNavigation allSendersOf: #browse) anyOne sourceCode. you get the source as expected. However, if you evaluate: (self systemNavigation allImplementorsOf: #browse) anyOne sourceCode. you get an error. The last snippet used to work just fine in Pharo 1.1.1. I consider it a bug. What do you think? Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Sometimes the best solution is not the best solution."

Status: Fixed Owner: siguctua CC: stephane.ducasse, marcus.denker, eliot.miranda Labels: Milestone-1.2 New issue 3531 by siguctua: [FIX]ParseNodeEnumerator does not visits ivar nodes http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3531 i found that enumerator does not does not visits the instance variable node: visitInstanceVariableNode: anInstanceVariableNode (self shouldVisit: anInstanceVariableNode) ifFalse: [^nil]. " theBlock value: anInstanceVariableNode. <<<< missing " ^super visitInstanceVariableNode: anInstanceVariableNode I thought that it was left on purpose, but Eliot confirmed that its a bug. [Pharo-project] PHP Fog ...
by Geert Claes Jan. 12, 2011

Jan. 12, 2011

I reckon a Smalltalk-type Heroku/PHP Fog (http://techcrunch.com/2011/01/10/php-fog-raises-1-8-million-to-be-the-herok…) would be nice :) Would there be a viable business opportunity there or is the market simply too small? -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/PHP-Fog-tp3208657p3208657.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

[Pharo-project] Issue 3523 in pharo: Nested comments
by pharo＠googlecode.com Jan. 11, 2011

Jan. 11, 2011

Status: Accepted Owner: aplantec New issue 3523 by aplantec: Nested comments http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=3523 Now let me open a big can of worms but we truly need it. When you write documentation (I did several experiments with Soup) the documentation in class comment is cool because you to not have to have " and " and '' ' ' '' '" everytimes you manipulate a string or a comment. Now you do not want to have huge class comments I would prefer to have a couple of methods and it does not work: you put back the crappy unnestable " ugly boring.... better not putting comments. So I would really like to have */ this is a nice nestable comment "hkjkhhkjh " 'hkjjkh' 1 + 2 */yet another comment: increbile this is a nested ones: yes you know Smalltalkers are discovering the world/* /* As you see stealing the C comment syntax is a plus because everybody knows it. I remember a discussion on VW about possible syntax to support that. Before replying to this point thing hard because we need that support.

[Pharo-project] Waste of CPU Power by polling events?
by Guido Stepken Jan. 11, 2011

Jan. 11, 2011

I am just porting squeak/Etoys to Samsung-PAD and i noticed some strange things: In Pharo 1.1 network connections seemed to be limited to 4 connections: In the listenLoop backlogSize is set to 4. Means - Pharo is limited to max. of four simultaneous TCP Connections? But: Some MacIntel VM seem to run Squeak with additional worker thread for event processing. Maybe this limitation may not occur here? Carbon ports of Pharo use ioPeekKeystroke, ioGetKeystroke, ioMousePoint, ioGetButtonState instead of kEventRawKeyModifiersChanged and kEventMouseMoved event Found in Pharo so far: isDraggingEvent isDropEvent isEditEvent isKbdEvent isMorphicEvent isNoteEvent isTempoEvent isWindowEvent Hmmm ... quite a lot of events being polled: Need additional: isOnMouseOverEvent isMouseGestureEvent isTouchGestureEvent isNetworkEvent isUSBEvent isSerialEvent isParallelPortEvents isCtrl-C-Event ... I fear, that this costs a lot of wasted VM Power by polling. UNIX, especially Linux is changing towards a event machine, driven by interrupts. So - Interpreters should also migrated from polling to interrupt driven event-machines. I am missing that in Pharo. Pharo still has too much polling code/algorithm running, that slows down Pharo/Squeak/Etoys ... unneccessarily. Any ideas appreciated ... tnx, regards Guido Stepken

[Pharo-project] Alien + Cog VM
by Ken Treis Jan. 11, 2011

Jan. 11, 2011

What's the status of Alien in the new Cog VM? I was able to load Alien into Pharo 1.1.1 running Cog, and some simple callouts worked (e.g. `CRLibrary libraryVersionString` in CairoGraphics. But every callout with arguments failed in primFFICallResult:. Alien works perfectly for me in Pharo 1.1 using JMM's VMs when I load the Pharo 1.1 version from ConfigurationOfAlien, but I admit I haven't tried 1.1.1 in this arrangement. Is there something that's changed in Cog's Alien primitive implementation? -- Ken Treis Miriam Technologies, Inc.
