[Pharo-project] Monticello package analysis?
by Markus Fritsche May 3, 2011

May 3, 2011

Hello, I was thinking this morning about some tools to analyze monticello packages before loading them into the image. I usually like to have an image with many tools, unfortunately, some packages break other ones sometimes. Therefore, I'd like to classify a package before loading it, so I have better grounds for a decission to load a package or to leave it in the repository :) Before I start drafting something, I'd like to know if something like this has already been done and I am just not aware of it (this is my two weeks of smalltalk of the year). I am think something like this: Im-O-Im - Impact-On-Image * Low - package includes only classes and no extensions. All references to classes and globals are available in the current image * Medium - package includes code that extends protocols of existing classes (from another package/ kernel) * High - package includes methods that alter protocols of existing classes - chances are, that the package will break other stuff when loaded * Possible load error - package includes initialize methods of classe that will not execute in the current environment, thus there will be a debugger at initialization time * Possible compile error - package includes underscore assignments * Broken - package includes references to classes that are not part of the current environment * Unmet dependencies - package includes references to classes defined in other packages (within the same repository)

[Pharo-project] Hanging jobs on Hudson
by Igor Stasenko May 3, 2011

May 3, 2011

There is a job which all the time hangs forever.. https://pharo-ic.lille.inria.fr/hudson/job/ReportPharoTools12/ which blocks the slave from doing anything else. Could you (i don't know who) please disable it till you will check locally that it works without problems and only then run on server? -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

Re: [Pharo-project] [Vm-dev] Fwd: System time
by David T. Lewis May 2, 2011

I have not looked at this carefully, but I suspect an issue in Chronology (as opposed to a VM or primitive issue). DateAndTime initializes some cached values at image startup time, and thereafter calculates things based on the millisecond clock. If the millisecond clock drifts with respect to system time on the underlying platform (as presumably would be the case if the system clock is synchronized using ntp), then DateAndTime's opinion about current time will drift with respect to the underlying platform. As I processed the debugger, I saw that dtnow was greater than dtnext. I watched the OS clock and manually selected the next minute before I executed. The OS clock is right. It's Pharo that has drifted away from correct time. Regardless it would be nice if I have to correct the OS clock, it would still be nice to resync Pharo with the OS, keep both in sync and correct. What I am wanting is simply to resync the Pharo clock with the OS clock. > >>> > >>> It seems that when the Pharo image is started that it gets the OS System time, but keeps its own time after that. [Pharo-project] System time
by Jimmie Houchin May 2, 2011

May 2, 2011

I am developing a time sensitive application. I poll a server every minute for new data. The data is time sensitive and the sooner I can get the data to the release of the data the better. I have noticed that Pharo's system time drifts away from the OS system time. I would really like the Pharo system time to be the correct time. I have not been able to find where in Pharo I can call to update the System clock to the correct time. Any help greatly appreciated. Jimmie

[Pharo-project] squeaksource is down - a different perspective
by Torsten Bergmann May 2, 2011

May 2, 2011

>squeaksource.com is down a lot. People get frustrated at times. Yes, and unfortunately it looks like people love to be frustrated. Otherwise people would give Tobias more feedback on SqueakSource3 (see [1]) which IMHO could overtake the job in the future and replace the problematic image? Or is the outage a traffic problem and may happen with SS3 too? Is the (daily?) restart the only option we have or is a migration to a newer SS version possible? And yes - SmalltalkHub is on the way, but we still dont know how well it fits our needs/works/scales. Yes, this sounds negative but I think it can replace Squeaksource only in a long term... Bye T. [Pharo-project] stable RPackage version
by Tudor Girba May 2, 2011

May 2, 2011

Hi, ConfigurationOfRPackage 1.0 seems to go out of sync with the image after a while. For example, download the following Moose image: http://hudson.moosetechnology.org/job/moose-latest-dev/lastSuccessfulBuild/… and try RPackage organizer packageNamed: 'Famix-Core' If you load RPackage 3.0 it works. So, can we mark 3.0 as stable? Cheers, Doru -- www.tudorgirba.com "Being happy is a matter of choice."

[Pharo-project] Don't you think "Windows" menu item should be with the rest?
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 2, 2011

May 2, 2011

Right now, there is a special section for "Windows", but I think it is easier if it is together with Help, System, Tools, etc. I attach a screenshot. In addition, it changed the order in compare with Pharo 1.2 where it was: Tools Windows System Help What do you tink ? -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com
