[Pharo-project] Timespan #intersection: yields wrong result
by Johan Brichau May 4, 2011

May 4, 2011

Hi, I traced a bug when working with timespans to the following issue illustrated in the code snippet below. The last expression in the snippet yields false, although it should yield true (imho). |start end span| start :=DateAndTime now. end := start + 1 hour. span := Timespan starting: start ending: end. (span intersection: span) = span --> false I think that the intersection of a span with itself, should be itself. The origin of the problem is that Timespan>>intersection: creates a new timespan roughly as follows: Timespan starting: aBegin ending: self end. But Timespan>>end returns the end time of the timespan minus the clockprecision. As such, the intersecting span is a nanosecond shorter than the one we would expect. This eventually yields wrong results when working with timespans. The real question now is: should the implementation of Timespan>>intersection be changed -or- should Timespan>>end really return the (non-included) end time (that was passed when constructing it)? I sent this email to bugs(a)chronos-st.org, but a discussion here probably will not hurt either. Best regards Johan Brichau

[Pharo-project] ZnClient ConnectionTimedOut
by Jimmie Houchin May 4, 2011

May 4, 2011

Hello, I am happily use ZincHttpComponents, specifically ZnClient for my application. I make a request to the Python server part of my application which retrieves data from another server. This at times takes longer than the provided "timeout" for a connection. I am currently doing, ZnClient get: url. How can I increase the "timeout" for retrieving my data. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jimmie

I don't feel brave enough. My unique commit to VMMaker (.66) was a simple change in VMMakerTool to avoid the WorldMenu. There are more than 10 commits between them and none of them done by me. So...I am not sure I will be able to do it or to do it correctly (as opposite to CMakeVMMaker where I feel more confortable to commit and merge). Moreover one of the commits of Dave changed almost all classes (I am not saying it is bad ehh!!)...so the merge doesn't look easy. I would appreciate if you can take a look this time. Otherwise, I will try to do it along the week. Cheers mariano > Cheers > > > > Mariano > > > -- > Best regards, > Igor Stasenko AKA sig. > -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com

[Pharo-project] SVN vs Git for the cogvm
by Camillo Bruni May 3, 2011

May 3, 2011

Hi eliot, I wanted to know if there is a particular reason that you use svn over git? Since it is quite a hassle each time to merge the svn history to the git repos, which I think is a bit of useless repetitive work which could be avoided. I think it would be nice if you could switch to git as well, actually there is not much difference to svn, and with some nice macros you can make behave almost the same... best regards, camillo

[Pharo-project] digitAt: issue
by Bernat Romagosa May 3, 2011

May 3, 2011

Hi, try to run the following: (2 raisedTo: 100000) digitAt: 1 The expected result (if I understood what digitAt: should return) is 9, but the message returns 0 instead. In fact, it returns 0 for any index. Is this a bug or am I missunderstanding how digitAt: should work? Cheers, Bernat Romagosa. p.s. My config is Pharo 1.2 with a 'Croquet Closure Cog VM [CoInterpreter VMMaker-oscog.51]' on Debian Lenny.
