[Pharo-project] Pharo Sprint in Argentina?
by Guillermo Polito May 9, 2011

May 9, 2011

With some people around here, we would like to do a PharoSprint most likely the 28/05. Maybe we can aim to close some things for 1.2.2 and 1.3 :) BTW, there are several students who want to participate and have not signed the agreement yet. Stef, should we send them all in one email to make it more confortable? Re: [Pharo-project] Issue in loading SqueakDBX Patch
by sourav roy May 9, 2011

Thanks for the guidance.....i am very new to Smalltalk so quite confused with its terminologies.....i thought these files are patch files as we use them to update the smalltalk library. My work requires me to work in VA Smalltalk for a Financial client and mostly in it i have to use the existing framework which give me very less chance to get into the Language as a whole. But i am becoming fascinated with the ways to smalltalk to started exploring it with Pharo. [Pharo-project] OB variable references browser bug [fix]
by Igor Stasenko May 9, 2011

May 9, 2011

There is a DNU in OB, when you do following: - go to some class - click its 'variables' , to open variable references browser - select any variable and go to one of the methods which using it - modify this method to no longer reference that variable and accept it. And at that moment you got DNU. The possible fix is attached. But note, that this method actually invoked as a result of handing another error. I don't know, maybe it would be better to prevent an original error from occur, rather than putting a workaround like this. I'm not an expert in OB, so i just fixed so it kinda works, at least its not triggers DNU anymore. To see the original error, simply put 'self halt' in the method i attached, and then look at the stack in debugger. -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

[Pharo-project] If sources file is not present, something bad happens
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 9, 2011

May 9, 2011

Hi guys. In pharo 1.1, 1.2 (in fact, always) one could decide not to use the .sources file and instead decompile. At startup the image raises a popup saying "ehhhh the .sources couludnt be found" and then after, when you browse a method you see the decompiled code. Now, in Pharo 1.3 I REMOVE all possible .sources and the image doesn't say anything at startup. No popup. If I print SourceFiles I get -> an ExpandedSourceFileArray(nil MultiByteFileStream: '/Users/mariano/Pharo/imagenes/PharoCore-1.2/PharoCore-1.2.changes') So...the sources is not there. Two problems: 1) the first one is that the popup doesn't raise. 2) I cannot browse methods because a popup raises saying there was a probelm with the sources file: "There may be a problem with your sources file!". I attach screenshot. So...what could be happening? I will try to debug it... If someone can confirm please I open an ticket. -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com

[Pharo-project] Cannot abandon sources with CogVM
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 9, 2011

May 9, 2011

Hi. If I take any PharoCore 1.3 image and evaluate: Smalltalk abandonSources I have two errors and the image is frozen. I cannot interrupt it and I have to force a quite. Two erros pops up: the first one says "computation has been terminated" and the second one is a stacktrace which message: "UndefinedObject(Object)>>doesNotUnderstand: #findNextHandlerContextStarting" This seems similar to the problem we have with the DebuggerMethodMap trying to build a dev image: http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=4087 At least this time it is easier to reproduce ;) I attach PharoDebug.log. With the Interpreter VM it works correctly. Thanks -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com

[Pharo-project] How to load Nautilus?
by Mariano Martinez Peck May 9, 2011

May 9, 2011

I took the latest PharoCore 1.3 and evaluated: Gofer new squeaksource: 'Nautilus'; package: 'ConfigurationOfNautilus'; load. ConfigurationOfNautilus project lastVersion load But it says This package depends on the following classes: SystemAnnouncer You must resolve these dependencies before you will be able to load these definitions: GroupAnnouncer Select Proceed to continue, or close this window to cancel the operation. Then after in the load, I have a DNU in MCWorkingCopy >> modified: aBooleanm, because MonticelloAnnouncer is nil (not defined) So....how I am supposed to load Nautilus? And if I want the integration with Refactoring Browser, OCompletion, Shout, etc, what should I do? load those packages and magically Nautilus will work ? What happens if I load Nautilus in a dev image? Thanks -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com
