[Pharo-project] Report generation? (I need an update)
by Esteban Lorenzano June 9, 2011

June 9, 2011

Hi, I have a client who wants a desktop app (yes, I'm experimenting with transforming pharo into something a non-smalltalker user can use), and I need to generate some reports. I know, I know... this question raises time to time, but I need an updated answer. Seaside page lists some possibilities (with PDF generators), but, for instance, SPDF points to a squeakmap location to nowhere, and the others looks... well, not so lightweight (maybe I will finish using libharu, looks like the only living project on squeaksource). So... my question: what do you use to generate reports to clients? if pdf generation... which strategy? Thanks, Esteban

[Pharo-project] [ANN] Google Analytics Tracker, a small tool
by Esteban Lorenzano June 8, 2011

June 8, 2011

Hi, I want to announce the release of Google Analytics Tracker, a small tool we make for getitmade.com (Nick Ager's project), to allow us to get analytics data. Right now is very simple, it just give us page visits data, but can be used as a foundation to get a lot more info. You get it by: Gofer it squeaksource: 'gat'; package: 'ConfigurationOfGoogleAnalyticsTracker'; load. (Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfGoogleAnalyticsTracker) load. To see how it works just see GAAccess class>>#example. It uses Zinc and PetitParser, so if gemstone can load both packages, it will work without any problems (I think it will, but I will check it tomorrow... maybe with a different configuration). You will be able to add to your pages something like the image I'm sending :) Cheers, Esteban

[Pharo-project] Report generation? (I need an update)
by Torsten Bergmann June 8, 2011

June 8, 2011

Hi, I created the "libharu" binding since to me this was the only way to get a PDF out of Pharo without a dependency on other "to be installed software" environment. In a seaside app you may have control over the server and install jasperreports/FOP/Ghostscript/... and configure until it all works together. But for a rich client app I wanted to be more independent, a simple DLL and some FFI calls and you are ready to go. Makes it more easy to distribute the app. Unfortunately (compared to JasperReports where you have a template editor) the libharu is very, very low level so you have to do most stuff manually (text, line breaks, images, paint tables, ...) or you write a simple reporting engine yourself. For simple documents it is enough ... for more you should really have a look at engines where you can define printed material visually (like in Jasper report builder). Side notes: ========== - SPDF was nice since Smalltalk only, but not free AFAIK - yes, Christian Haider wanted to open source his VW based PDF framework - maybe you contact him to check/do a Pharo port Bye T. -- Empfehlen Sie GMX DSL Ihren Freunden und Bekannten und wir belohnen Sie mit bis zu 50,- Euro! https://freundschaftswerbung.gmx.de

[Pharo-project] TWM: Multiple World integration
by laurent laffont June 8, 2011

June 8, 2011

With the help of my local developper group, I've integrated Sean DeNigris work and now Tiling Window Manager supports Multiple Worlds. Here's a screencast that shows the progress. (My English seems a little less catastrophic than the previous screencast :) http://magaloma.blogspot.com/2011/06/multiple-worlds-for-twm.html Cheers, Laurent Laffont - @lolgzs <http://twitter.com/#!/lolgzs> Pharo Smalltalk Screencasts: http://www.pharocasts.com/ Blog: http://magaloma.blogspot.com/ Developer group: http://cara74.seasidehosting.st
