[Pharo-project] Needed hooks to replace ImageSegment and ReferenceStream by Fuel?
by Mariano Martinez Peck June 16, 2011

June 16, 2011

Hi guys. Stef/Marcus are proposing to replace ImageSegment and RefenceStream by Fuel. Maybe in Pharo 1.4 or in the future. So, I need help to understand mostly the required "hooks". So far, I am aware of: *ReferenceStream* 1) #comeFullyUpOnReload: aReferenceStream This message is sent once the object is read from the stream, at materialization time. We already have this in Fuel and it is called #fuelAfterMaterialization 2) #objectForDataStream: refStrm This message is sent once the object is going to be written into the stream, at serialization time. The idea is that an object may not serialize itself as it is but something different. Most of the times, it is a DiskProxy, but not necessary. This doesn't go with the idea of Fuel, where the objects do not decide theirself how to be serialized/materialized but instead delegate to a cluster. 3) #applyConversionMethodsTo: objectIn className: className varMap: varMap This is for class shape changes. We will have another protocol. 4) #storeDataOn: aDataStream This message lets an object decide how to be serialized. *ImageSegment* a) #startUpFrom: anImageSegment Almost the same as 1). So....I am missing more? opinions? which of them are really used hooks? Thanks -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com

[Pharo-project] #currentVersion is wrong?
by Mariano Martinez Peck June 15, 2011

June 15, 2011

Hi Dale. If I took the latest Pharo 1.3 from hudson: https://pharo-ic.lille.inria.fr/hudson/view/Pharo/job/Pharo%201.3/214/ and I print ConfigurationOfPharo project currentVersion I get ->>>>> >=1.2.2 [ConfigurationOfPharo] But in fact, that's not true. It should be 1.3-beta2 [ConfigurationOfPharo] I've checked and the real version loaded is 1.3-beta2 so I think it is a problem of #currentVersion. Thanks -- Mariano http://marianopeck.wordpress.com

[Pharo-project] Anyone using ImageSegment aut-save on snapshot?
by Marcus Denker June 15, 2011

June 15, 2011

Hi, There is code in the image that does check on startup for old image segments: saveImageSegments: previousFullImageName "This method is used for example when you save an image with another name. In this case, if there are segments written to files and there are ImageSegment instances, then it copies the file from the previous image location, to the new one. It is like a backup of the segment files when renaming an image. " And there is code to clean up these files: reclaimObsoleteSegmentFiles "ImageSegment reclaimObsoleteSegmentFiles" "Delete segment files that can't be used after this image is saved. Note that this is never necessary -- it just saves file space. This is usually used when we save and quit an image. It has no sense to keep ImageSegment files, if we don't have the ImageSegment object in the new image to recover that file. Thus, those objects that are not reclaimed, will be removed." Is anyone using this? Marcus -- Marcus Denker -- http://www.marcusdenker.de INRIA Lille -- Nord Europe. Team RMoD.

Re: [Pharo-project] [Pharo-users] TWM custom buttons (was: Multiple World integration)
by laurent laffont June 15, 2011

June 15, 2011

Hi Benjamin, Here's a first version where you can add your own buttons using a pragma, like this: SomeClass class>>buttonTestRunner: aBuilder <twmBarButton> aBuilder action: [TestRunner open]; help: 'open TestRunner'; icon: TestRunner taskbarIcon'. See TWMBarInANewWorldTest>>setUp and tests. Laurent.
