Contributing to Bloc
by kilon alios April 7, 2015

April 7, 2015

Hey guys, these last days I have taken a look at Bloc and really like its design. So I was wondering how I can be of assistance. I am not an experienced pharo jedi like you guys but I think I could do my small part to help make Bloc into a replacement for Morphic. >From what I see Bloc some issues rendering Morphs , for example tabs (window groups) and some glitches here and there. So how am I proceed ? How I can help ?

Find & replace a dot
by Franck Warlouzet April 7, 2015

April 7, 2015

Hi, For some reason I had to replace a dot with another character, but in the Find & Replace window, searching a dot is actually a bad idea (especially in order to replace it) because for the window all the characters are dots. It selects and replaces the whole text. I know this kind of thing only happens to me, but is there a way to fix it ? I searched in FindReplaceService and I didn't find where the problem is (by the way, never put an halt in FindReplaceService>>findText: then do a request, if you do, prepare yourself to restart Pharo). Cheers, Franck

Pharo 4 release & Pharo50Inbox
by Peter Uhnák April 7, 2015

April 7, 2015

Hi, is the date of Pharo 4 release pushed to fixed date, or to "when ready"? Also, am I free to push into Pharo50Inbox, or is that only after release? (I'm assuming in either case it won't be integrated until the release.) Thanks, Peter

Anonymous Subclasses and Slots
by Stefan Marr April 7, 2015

April 7, 2015

Hi: Is the following expression supposed to work? Class new compile: âfoo: a ^ a' I am on the latest Pharo 4 image. There is a test doing `Behavior new compile:` in BehaviorTest>>#testCompile but this test doesnât use any variables/arguments, so the problem does not appear. The issue is that the `layout` of the result of `Class new` is nil, which cases the compiler to fail, when it sends #allSlots when determining the instanceScope. Canadian Smalltalk Competition
by Ben Coman April 6, 2015

April 6, 2015

Richard Eng visited the Pharo community a while ago being very enthusiastic about his Smalltalk Renaissance project. His strategy didn't end up fitting the community, but I find his kickstarter to run a Smalltalk coding competition for secondary students interesting. Apart from straight altruism to support it, providing a wide exposure of students to the concept of Smalltalk just before they enter university should generate some spillover to our communities. A rising tide lifts all ships. And community networking is a funny thing, some of those students will have parents in strategic positions who would never otherwise be exposed to Smalltalk. Its worth considering.... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1520902870/canadian-smalltalk-competit… cheers -ben
