"Gentle" Deprecation
by Sean P. DeNigris April 28, 2015

April 28, 2015

In String>>#subStrings: there is: "This method is planned for future deprecation in favour of #substrings: (Issue 7592), but we do it gently, first via Critic Browser > Design Flaws > Future Deprecation Warning" Is that now preferred over #deprecated:on:in:? ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Gentle-Deprecation-tp4822336.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Integration process in presence of "external" project
by stepharo April 28, 2015

April 28, 2015

Esteban I was thinking about the following this night. While I understand that we want configuration only it will slow us down like hell. Example with guille we wanted to fix a problem (I do not remember which one) we need a change to be done in rubric so we will have to publish the change in rubric repo - (find it and add it) so the rubric repo should be there before - then one guy of rubric should have a look - then merge - then publish an issue with a configuration - then only then we can work => result why do we need sync for me and guille to continue to work??? => what if Alain in on vacation? we stop working? => Remember: We did Pharo especially because people in squeak did not want that we change packages. Alternate process - we do a fix we publish it in Pharo and yes this touches Rubric and - we integrate it in Pharo head - then the guy from rubric merge in their trunk when they want. it should be part of the their process to merge always with pharo trunk - At that point they can report a problem - then they produce at their speed a new configuration - then we integrate when ready their change Stef

[NB] NBExternalArray not working for complex types?
by Max Leske April 27, 2015

April 27, 2015

Hi guys I have a problem with NBExternalArray. AFAICT the generated assembly should be able to handle arbitrary elements in the array (as long as they are all of the same type). The operations required to read / write an element are given by the external type specified for the collection (e.g âcharâ or âintâ). All of this works wonderfully for char, int, NBExternalAddress etc. But Iâm trying to get it working for strings. So here is the code that I would expect to work: arrayClass := NBExternalArray anonymousSubclassInitElementType: 'String'. array := arrayClass new: 1. array at: 1 put: âfoo'. array at: 1. ââ> should procude âfooâ, but produces arbitrary stringsâ I can make it work with NBExternalAddress of course but I donât want to if I can avoid it. Iâd appreciate it if someone (Nicolai?) could take a look at NBExternalArray>>emitRead / emitWrite and see if thereâs an easy solution. Especially for strings I donât think it should be too hard since all thatâs needed is already present in the string handling facilities. Cheers, Max

Oh well, that's better than having artefacts (to use correct terminology) from my point of view in the mean-time. No, there isn't pixilation. Thanks.

Fogbugz Area
by Sean P. DeNigris April 27, 2015

External projects have various "Areas" - External, Misc, Image. Which is the appropriate one and will that automatically make the monkey skip the issue? ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Fogbugz-Area-tp4822198.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Fixes to External Pharo Projects

How do we commit fixes to e.g. Tx? Just commit the individual packages to the Tx repo? Commit a slice there? ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Fixes-to-External-Pharo-Projects-tp4822177.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
