by jannik laval May 15, 2015

May 15, 2015

Hi all, A group of my students worked on the connection of phratch and the robot Poppy. All is done with a REST communication (thanks to Zinc). http://www.phratch.com/archives/1138 Now, we have a new robot in our world :) Cheers, -- ~~Jannik Laval~~ Ãcole des Mines de Douai Enseignant-chercheur http://www.jannik-laval.eu http://www.phratch.com http://www.approchealpes.info http://car.mines-douai.fr/

Reef: Initialization with default parameters
by Thomas Heniart May 15, 2015

May 15, 2015

Hi, Currently, I am playing with Reef and it is a cool framework but I have a little problem... I want to initialize a REForm with a parameter I need in initializeContents So I have something but it doesn't seem to be the right way... WAMyObject>>renderContentOn: html html render: (myReefForm new param1: self paramNeed) But during initialization of myReefForm, initializeContents is called before param1 initialization... If someone know what I should do :) An other question : Where can I find documentations on Reef ? The only things I have found are on http://smallworks.eu/web/projects/reef Cheers, Thomas

Transcript needs your love
by stepharo May 15, 2015

May 15, 2015

Hi guys the Transcript in Pharo is that it's not asynchronous so I can't use it in VM development to show the current progress of the simulation. For example: 1 to: 100 do: [ :i | 0.1 seconds asDelay wait. Transcript show: 'x'. ] => on Squeak, this shows a x every 0.1 second in the Transcript => on Pharo, nothing happens during 10 seconds then all the x are shown. https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?15515

OLEDB versus ODBC
by Ben Coman May 15, 2015

May 15, 2015

I hust bumped into some old news (2011) I hadn't heard before that I thought might be of interest to those working on database drivers for Pharo, to perhaps not spend any time on OLEDB. "Microsoft announced it will focus on supporting the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) approach for SQL Server application programming interfaces (APIs) in the near future. Microsoft indicated that it will gradually step away from supporting OLE DB." https://redmondmag.com/articles/2011/09/01/microsoft-shifting-to-open-datab… cheers -ben

Re: [Pharo-dev] [squeak-dev] Cog VM problem?
by Eliot Miranda May 15, 2015

May 15, 2015

Hi Raymond, yes, thanks. We have a regression in the code generator due to recent changes to #== compilation. We're working on it. I hope to have a fix soon. Apologies for the inconvenience. For those of you curious why this only affects the V3 VM, not the Spur VM, the reason is that in Spur the Cogit passes up to 2 argument sends in registers but in V3 it passes only up to 1 arg sends in registers. In (borderWidth = style width and: ["Hah! Try understanding this..." borderColor == style style or: ["#raised/#inset etc" #simple == style style and: [borderColor = style color]]]) ifFalse: [style := borderColor isColor ifTrue: [BorderStyle width: borderWidth color: borderColor] ifFalse: [(BorderStyle perform: borderColor) width: borderWidth "argh."]. self setProperty: #borderStyle toValue: style]. #simple erroneously ends up getting spilled to the stack, so that when the send of width:color: to BorderStyle occurs the code generator emits code to access what it thinks is BorderWidth, but ends up accessing #simple instead. As I say we're working on it and should have a fix soon.
