Pharo 5: browser windows are extremely resource hungry
by Max Leske July 15, 2015

July 15, 2015

Hi I discovered that in Pharo 5, having two or more browser windows open significantly reduces responsiveness in the image (delayed clicks, ghosting when moving windows etc.). This is especially true if a method has been selected in two or more windows. The ghosting becomes much worse when you drag a window. I checked that the same does not happen in Pharo 4. I originally thought that there was a strong impact on CPU load too, but itâs actually not that bad. Has anybody seen this or even worked on a fix for it? If not, Iâll open a bug report. Cheers, Max

Loading TWM in Pharo 4.0
by Sean P. DeNigris July 15, 2015

July 15, 2015

When loading TWM from the Configuration Browser, the version shown is ConfigurationOfTilingWindowManager-LaurentLaffont.28. But when I click load, ConfigurationOfTilingWindowManager-PhilippeBack.28 is what actually gets loaded, presumably from my cache, and which has no stable version for 4.0. Another strange thing to note is that ConfigurationOfTilingWindowManager-PhilippeBack.28 reports its ancestor as ConfigurationOfTilingWindowManager-PhilippeBack.28! Huh? Is anyone else experiencing this and what should be done? ----- Cheers, Sean -- View this message in context: http://forum.world.st/Loading-TWM-in-Pharo-4-0-tp4837023.html Sent from the Pharo Smalltalk Developers mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Pharo-dev] Card layout in Bloc?
by Stephan Eggermont July 14, 2015

July 14, 2015

Writing a LayoutStrategy in Bloc can be easy. Generic layout strategies get complex because they can be parametrized a lot. That tends to distract from the essentials. In this case, all I need is a strategy that adds submorphs from left to right in the panel, breaking to a new line when it is full, and recalculate the height when finished. A LayoutStrategy needs to provide only one method #layout:in:. In that, the morph and its submorphs need to be layouted in the proposed bounds. These bounds can be changed. Resizing needs to happen with #innerExtent:, not with #extent: as that results in a non-interruptible loop. Instead of using #submorphsDo, Bloc uses #layoutComponentsDo:. BlCardLayout>>layout: aMorph in: newBounds |offset maxHeight| offset := 0@0. maxHeight := 0. aMorph layoutComponentsDo: [ :component | offset x + component width > newBounds width ifTrue: [ "start a new line" offset := 0@ (offset y + maxHeight). maxHeight := 0]. component position: offset. maxHeight := maxHeight max: component height. offset := (offset x + component width) @ offset y]. maxHeight + offset y > aMorph height ifTrue: [ aMorph innerExtent: aMorph innerExtent x @ (maxHeight+ offset y)] For the card wall I'll need to add margin and inset. Card layout in Bloc?
by Stephan Eggermont July 14, 2015

July 14, 2015

I'm looking at a way to layout the drag wells in a drag panel. I would like the width of the panel to remain constant, and the submorphs to be layed out flowing into new rows. How do I do that with the new layout strategies? Stephan

Hi, In the latest version (169) in Nautilus method code does not get highlighted (or gets highlighted highlighted) very slowly. I think it comes from rubric. Can anyone else confirm. Andrei
