GTSpotter on CatalogBrowser
by Peter Uhnák Aug. 11, 2015

Aug. 11, 2015

Hi, when previewing CatalogBrowser projects via GTSpotter, there's a lot of empty space in the preview window âthe result is that the data that I am actually interested in are cropped. Also I think project's description should be available there. And final question: to my knowledge http://catalog.pharo.org/catalog/json is being updated only once a day, so there is not much point of downloading it and parsing it every time single time I open spotter. Also I have to wait after typing something before the projects actually show up. So why not use a time-based cache/singleton? Thanks, Peter

Stream Control Transmission Protocol
by Ben Coman Aug. 11, 2015

Aug. 11, 2015

Going through old issues, I see one [1] regarding adding SCTP [2] support. I've not heard of this protocol before. What are its benefits and use case for Pharo/Squeak ? Regarding our resource constraints, modularisation goal and ongoing support, what is our strategy for this? 1. Integrate for Pharo 5? 2. Integrate into VM as plugin and have as external Configuration for image? (btw, remind me if a Configuration can also add a VM plugin?) 3. Continue to leave it for later. 4. Decline to use it. Holger, What application are you using this for, and how are you managing to work with this at the moment? [1] https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?7346 [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stream_Control_Transmission_Protocol cheers -ben

[Issue tracker] *Please* look at your old reported issues!
by Marcus Denker Aug. 10, 2015

Aug. 10, 2015

Hi, We have 622 open issues. There are *a lot* of old issues that nobody will ever look at. Please check those that *you* submitted to see what the status is! If it is just âwould be niceâ, but not even on a level that you yourself are willing to even send a mail to the mailing list to get people interested in helping you to push the case forward, maybe you could think about closing the issue? Maybe someone asked a question? If you submit an issue and there is a question not answered for a month, we should close it: How important can it be? Why should *I* spend the time to fix this issue if *you* are not even willing to answer a question in a minute? It makes no sense to have lots and lots of issues that are not important even for the submitter. Another thing is that issues get fixed, subsystems replaced, code removed⦠and the amazing thing is that *never* the submitter of the original report closes it, even in these obvious cases. The issue tracker is not a one way street! Marcus

Nautilus leak symptom & possible fix
by Ben Coman Aug. 10, 2015

Aug. 10, 2015

Its been noted before there may be some leak in Nautilus. I bumped into a possible symptom... 1. Open fresh image (e.g. 50216) 2. Open Transcript. 3. Open *one* System Browser 4. Add instrumentation to method Nautilus >>> NautilusUI >> methodModified: e.g.... Transcript crShow: '>>>' , thisContext printString; tab; show: anAnnouncement printString ; tab ; show: sourceTextModel text. 5. In same System Browser, add method MyPackage >>> MyClass >> test1 Observe steps (4.) and (5.) each logged a single item to Transcript. 6. Open a *second* System Browser and add method MyPackage >>> MyClass >> test2 Observe step (6.) logged two items to Transcript, one for each open System Browser. 7. Close *second* System Browser. 8. In *first* System Browser, modify #test1. Observe step (8.) logged two items to Transcript. I would expect only one. Is there any issue open for this? I couldn't find one. ----------------- Try 1, not sure yet if this is all that is required, but its a start... NautilusWindow >> delete | mod | mod := self model. super delete. ">>>" SystemAnnouncer uniqueInstance unsubscribe: mod. "<<<added" mod ifNotNil: [ mod announce: (WindowClosed new window: self) ] cheers -ben

extension not appearing under package(-tag?)
by Ben Coman Aug. 10, 2015

Aug. 10, 2015

I'm not sure what to make of this... I notice that the class side of Object has protocol *Tools-Debugger contains method #canonicalArgumentName, but class side of that package/tag does not show #canonicalArgumentName, which instead appears under parent "Tools". Also btw, I notice package Tools-Debugger contain KeyPrinterMorph and SyntaxErrorDebugger classes which seem to have no class references. Not that every class needs to be referenced, but just floating this observation in case someone knew if they need to be cleaned up or moved. cheers -ben

Pharo or Squeak ? In squeak, this stackframe / large stackframe bug was introduced some months ago by a change for the compiler but it is already fixed. In pharo, we have a simliar bug (in pharos compiler (opal), not related to the change on the squeak compiler). This is a bug that is known but not yet fixed 13854 <https://pharo.fogbugz.com/default.asp?13854> frameSize calculated wrongly for #lineSegmentsDo: ! 2015-08-09 18:39 GMT+02:00 tim Rowledge <tim(a)rowledge.org>: > > Sabine, > As a general rule of thumb, if a method is too long to see at a glance - > in practice this means too long to fit on your screen - then it almost > certainly needs splitting up.
