[Pharo-project] start thinking on summer release of Pharo 1.4

Hi, I started thinking on next release of Pharo 1.4 (which will be code named "summer", not an ugly number). I've been monitoring the list and I think there are some things to improve, so I'm planning to add this things to new one click: - pre-load OmniBrowser. Why I'm suggesting this? Because nobody seems to notice that OB is actually working on 1.4 and everybody complains that "you cannot have refactors, blabla", which is just not true, but is causing a lot of bad feeling around what is a great release (yes, I'm making some constructive criticism about the list attitude, but also about our/mine communicational capabilities). Original idea was to allow people to choose OB or Nautilus, since the last one will be the browser for Pharo in the future, but truth is that Nautilus is still a "technology preview"... and it will be there for all those like me, who want to use it. Finally, most important issue is that newcomers expect to have a full environment working out of the box, and they don'y know how to use the Configuration Browser. - pre-load Spotlight Yeah, another small tool who can make your life easy. Why? just because I'm tired of seeing all of you typing class names at workspace and press cmd+b later... or using some more uncomfortable ways to reach your code. If you still prefer those ways, is up to you ;) So far, this and the bugfixes we already made (and some more)... What do you think? Esteban

So www.squeaksource.com/MetaRepoForPharo14 includes anything that has proved to work on Pharo 1.4 and by copying the config from project repos or www.squeaksource.com/MetacelloRepository to www.squeaksource.com/MetaRepoForPharo14 it will appear in the list of Configuration Browser. I wrote it as a simple replacement for SqueakMap and for people like me who dont remember loading scripts and want to use the mouse for loading ;) And yes the repo for 1.4 is writeable. If you have a config that is known to work for 1.4. you can copy it there and it will be available. Make sure it contains a symbolic stable version for instance in ConfigurationOfScriptManager you will find: stable: spec <symbolicVersion: #stable> spec for: #'pharo1.1.x' version: '1.2'. spec for: #'pharo1.2.x' version: '1.2'. spec for: #'pharo1.3.x' version: '1.3'. spec for: #'pharo1.4.x' version: '1.4'. Pharo 2.0 is neither stable nor released thats why the repo is still empty. Also the 2.0 repo is on SmalltalkHub (http://smalltalkhub.com/mc/Pharo/Packages20/main) and I dont know whats planned here. Dont know about the state/progress of SmalltalkHub and wonder why we dont use a http://ss3.gemstone.com/ss/MetaRepoForPharo20. Stef: any comments here? [Pharo-project] FileSystem and file extensions

Hi! I've seen that FS takes as a file extension everything after the first dot, instead of the last one. Now, that conflicts with the naming we are using for our files: - changesets and fileouts often take the form something.cs, something.1.cs, something.2.cs - image names: pharo-2.0.image, pharo-2.0.1.image One of them has to be changed I think... :) Also, I'm more used to the other definition of extension: All after the last dot :S Guille

because right now we cannot load configurations because it requires configuration of Help and squeaksource is done. It would be good to have a small version of metacello just loading the bare minimum. Stef

The Pharo 2.0 compatible version of ScriptManager now also contains code completion. Hat tip to Sean P. DeNigris and Wilhelm K Schwab for their discussion about this.
