[Pharo-project] missing packages in Pharo14 repository

Hi Marcus, I guess you are aware of this. I looked at Undeclared in the reloaded Core and I found out that one method that makes it is different in the latest Pharo 1.4 and belongs to newer version of the package (Settings-System v.17). This version is not present in the Pharo repository but what is more interesting - it is not present also in the Pharo14 repository. Cheers, -- Pavel

Hi, Does anyone know of a package for Pharo that can calculate password strength based on its entropy? I know the formula based on the size of the symbol set and length of password, but would like to see some smalltalk code that fully implements this. -- ~JT

[Pharo-project] Need help with ConfigurationOfCog

I updated the configuration to load new specs (ver 2.1), and everything worked before, but looks like after update of metacello, it does some checks and barks with error: Apparent loop in before/after dependency definitions any advice, what is wrong with it? The script to load stuff is following: Gofer new squeaksource: 'MetacelloRepository'; package: 'ConfigurationOfCog'; load. ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfCog) project version: '2.1') load. (Smalltalk saveAs: 'generator.image') ifFalse: [ Smalltalk snapshot: false andQuit: true] its used on hudson server to build VMs, and apparently worked before. Hi, I'm trying to load Zinc on gemstone. Its only from naÃ¯vetÃ© . What do you recommend I do instead? As Norbert mentioned in Pharo #hi = 'hi' evaluates to true but in Gemstone it evaluates to false. My only ideas to address the issue you bring up is to: 1. get Sven to change his design/coding behavior which may impede the functional improvement of Zinc in a small way. 2. get Pharo to behave as the blue book says it should 3. get Gemstone to behave like Pharo does. 4. Put an asSymbol everywhere the problem pops up. 5. ??? I'm sure there are better ideas but that's all I can think of at the moment. Also I do it twice in that method. I'd really appreciate reading a guide or some guidelines on how to do cross platform development. Or just code reviews like you've provided. I also override things rather than subclass in the port, as a rule. I think that's also offensive in some way but I'm not sure how/why. Thanks for the heads up Paul
