Igor, what does newSurface: do?, in the context of Cairo. How do you render the contents of the Cairo surface to the Display? Or are you using the writeToPng->readFromPng to Form->Display Form mechanism. I was planning to use, NBCairoSurface>>getData:, which returns a pointer to the data, and simply update the Display contents with the surface's data. [Pharo-project] Anyone want more timezones in the base image?

Hi - Because of how Internet Explorer reports javascript dates back to Seaside (as detected by Brian Murphy-Dye when using the FullCalendar jQuery plugin) I added the ability to determine the timezone based on the abbreviation IE reports. I used the list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone_abbreviations to create an expanded version of TimeZone class>>#timeZones which encompasses those shown in the list on wikipedia. And added some convenience methods. Its not as useful or sophisticated as David Lewis's TimeZone database or Chronos, but its more than what's in the image now. If someone wants it I can make an issue and package my changes up for review. Right now I'm just including them as extensions to the JQWidgetBox-JQFullCalendar-Core package. We binding an Athens API for Cairo library. It fits pretty well as a backend to API. Today i got some basics working. Mostly, the functionality covered by: AthensCairoSurfaceExamples example1 and AthensCairoSurfaceExamples example2 which drawing nothing fancy but just rectangle(s) with solid color. example2 " self example2 " | surf | surf := self newSurface: 100@100. surf drawDuring: [:can | surf clear. can setPaint: Color blue. can drawShape: ( can createPath: [:path | path absolute; lineTo: 50@0; lineTo: 50@50; lineTo: 0@50 ]) ]. Ok, i'm in favor of having everything in smalltalk too. The problem i have is the following: i want to change "how" the VM should announce events "were" the vm should draw Regarding the "were", currently the VM has a primitive from which you can specify which Form will act as the Display. But what if i want to render to something else than a form? Esteban: how does the COCOA VM draw the Display? Does it create a NSWindow, with a custom view, which copies the bits from the Display Form, into a drawing context (Quartz? OpenGL?). If we are moving towards a vectorial framework( AthensCanvas rendering to OpenGL or Cairo), we dont need to hardcode a "Display" a primitive in the vm. there's no need for such primitive. We just need access to the drawing context of the Pharo window, and render whatever we want there. We need the following: (using COCOA as an example) an OS window =>NSWindow with a custom view ==> subclass of NSView that creates a Cairo surface to a quartz backend, from which in the image side i can tell the AthensCanvas to draw into. For the event part, i should directly change the platform specific code for the Cocoa VM's? Cocoa provides higher level events and the VM is encoding them into Arrays, that in the image are decoded back into high level events ( see HandMorph>>generateEvt:from:). Which makes it hard to add new kind of events, specifically those originated from the trackpad (pinch, swipe, etc). (another BIG problem is that currently, all the VMs arent encoding EXACTLY the same OS events into the VM Arrays of events). I would like to play with the OS event encoding/decoding, to not loose so much in the translation. Please let me know wether i explained myself clearly, i'm still in the process of understanding how to detach the VM from the Bitmapped forms. Hey everyone, So this is the skinny. We've met the basic requirements original discussed with Jet Brains early in 2011 for Redline Smalltalk support to make it onto their roadmap. We need your help to get it moved up. Jet Brains has a voting system where registered users vote up features they want to see implemented. As of today, there is now one for Redline support. The next step is pretty simple... We need everyone to sign in with google/Yahoo or sign up for a Jet Brains account and vote for Redline support.We need you to tweet about it.... to email people about it.... to google + about it. ... to stand on the street corner talking about how the world is going to come to an end unless this happens. Hi Martin, Mariano, I wanted to check the permissions on squeaksource for fuel but squeaksource is about to die. So I drop you a note here (because I don't know a better place). In FLSerializer>>serialize:toFileNamed: you should use StandardFileStream forceNewFileNamed: aFilename ... instead of StandardFileStream fileNamed: aFilename ... Yours does not truncate the file. If your model is shrinking then the file stays of same size with garbage trailing. I didn't test if this introduces read problems but I think truncating is the way to go. Norbert
