Hi, I finished the list of changes for the issue http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=2635. This issue is the next step after already integrated packages reorganization and the goal is to have compact package base a the small headless PharoKernel image. Most changes are simple naming unification and some classes I skipped because they need deeper refactorings. I will now check the list once more. -- Pavel

Subbu, It can still be a serious problem as performance can suffer. In fact, in this case, I am talking about Shared Libraries, not plugins. There is no fallback code; one succeeds in loading the library or the game is over. strace might do the job, but what is wrong with having the vm log what it is trying to do? In general, failing to load a plugin module is not a fatal error. Sometimes, a primtive can fallback to using internal routines if the plugin is not available. Subbu

[Pharo-project] ExternalAddress and block copy?

Are there any well-worn ways to move data into and out of external memory? The best I have been able to uncover are recommendations to either do it one byte at a time (yuk!) or to (ab)use bitblt. There must be better ways, right? If not, what tools are present in the image that need to be brought to the surface? How/where should that be done so that it works on all three platforms? To what extent, if any, can String and ByteArray be used as buffers for external calls? Dolphin made that robust, but there were hints that the gc was slightly tamed to allow it. The little reading I have done in squeak-dev archives suggests that squeak/pharo is not so forgiving. Is that true? Bill
