Hi all, I've been programming in Smalltalk/Pharo for a time, and it is really nice (I love it). Usually, I work with several images at my work and home. I share those images using dropbox. However it is not practical, if your images size are 100+ MB (because dropbox is synchronizing each time that you save). So I was wondering If you use a more practical software to share your images between several computers. Greetings Oscar

Hi all, I committed SLICE-Issue-00001-MakeSystemNavigationEnvironmentAware-LucFabresse.2 in PharoTaskForces. Now SystemNavigation is environment aware. There two test classes : - SystemNavigationTest has been modified to test SystemNavigation on Smalltalk globals - SystemNavigationOnNewlyCreatedEnvironmentTest tests SystemNavigation on a new Environment have look at SystemNavigationOnNewlyCreatedEnvironmentTest>>testEnsureDefaultEnvironmentNotUsed ClassFactoryWithOrganizationForTestCase has been added to easily create classes ClassFactoryWithOrganizationForTestCaseTest test this latter class. Merge well in 12218 and tests are green. #Luc

Tony this is not that simple. We hope in the future to have an infrastructure that lets us build better tools. Now I'm sure that if you help a community you will learn fast. Hi, I uploaded a new version of PharoKernel. It has several new properties: - better scripts processing - separate dictionaries for images, scripts, reports and downloaded packages - It is able to load Network, Monticello and Gopher (image included), however it needs some next fixes to work properly - ImageMap and ImageGraph included in the archive https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/27699/PharoKernel-1.2-12217.zip The most important thing that should be done in Pharo is to split Tests package to be able to load Monticello tests separately. If Monticello and Gofer will work well then it should be quite simple to prepare PharoCore Configuration to load the rest of PharoCore. Cheers, -- Pavel

[Pharo-project] Looking for real-world Magma application

Hello all, sorry for cross-posting. :) I'd like to ask you, if anyone could share either an image or installation with application, which using Magma OODB. I'd like to use it & test how changing different aspects of Magma internals could affect the performance. There's many tricks, which is known by Chris how to speed it up by cleverly fine-tuning various Magma options, like read strategy etc. But what i'd like is to see, is some setup, used by people, and by taking it, see how it could make run faster, without changing an application code. I remember, someone gave a talk @ ESUG, that they were using Magma for their application, but then forced to switch to another DB layer, because they had bad performance issues. It would be good, if you could give me the code, so i can run it and see if things could be improved. Its not a problem, if code is not open-source, we could sign an NDA, if this is necessary. Hi, (This is specially for Janko) I made a small change to SPort, because I need to execute command shell scripts, and the functionality is not implemented on SPort for Pharo. What I made is simply this: runShellCommandString: aCommandString | processClass | processClass := Smalltalk at: #OSProcess ifAbsent: [ self error: 'OSProcess is not installed, you need to install it before execute #runShellCommandString:']. ^processClass perform: #command: with: aCommandString. I want to commit it, but I don't have write rights to SPort project... can you add this method change? Cheers, Esteban

Regards before i want say than my knowledge of smalltalk is poor; and my knowledge of Smalltalk tools not exists :) IÂ´m used to use source code managers in another languages for handle text files. In that environments when I "unprotect" a file nothing more can write on it. I understand the equivalence of that in Smalltalk could be a "check out" to method level, or class level. Exists something like that in Pharo/squeak? Monticello could be work of that way? Imagine for example I want unprotect a class of Monticello server code; nobody could change that class , but is possible for another developers change another classes or methods. I donÂ´t know if explain good... The Browser in Pharo Core and Pharo One-Click doesn't appear to have the features described in the Pharo By Example book in chapter 6. In particular, there is no History bar at the top. Clicking on the gray lozenge at the upper right of the browser window gives me the option of selecting the Browser or OBSystemBrowserAdaptor, neither of which seems to have the features shown in the book. Is there somewhere I can get the OmniBrowser described in the book, or has it been replaced with what appears to be a less-functional version? Thanks, TF
