Q: What is the difference between a neurotic and a psychotic? A: A psychotic really thinks 2+2 = 5 A neurotic knows 2+2 = 4, but just can't stand it. ;^) I really can't stand some of the oddities of Complex numbers in Squeak [Note Mantis bug 311 -- http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=3311] I would find the following to be more rational: 3 asComplex. "no change--> (3+0i)" 3 asComplex isNumber. "no change--> true" -1 asComplex < 1 asComplex. "--> true" -4 sqrt. "--> 2.0i" -3 ln. "--> (1.098612288668382+3.141592653589793i)" ((1/2) + 2.1i) sin arcSin. "--> (0.500000000000001+2.1i)" ((((1/2) + 2.1i) sin arcSin) roundTo: 0.000001) = ((1/2) + 2.1i). "--> true" ((((1/2) + 2.1i) tanH arcTanH) roundTo: 0.000001) = ((1/2) + 2.1i). "--> true" Attached is a change set which adds a number of tests for Complex and the changes for Complex which allow those tests to pass in Pharo1.0beta update: #10413. Note that Complex becomes a subclass of Magnitude. I thought it would be useful to post the code first for your thoughts and any code cleanups. [Pharo-project] Seaside bug revisted, and a question about #on:do:

I just put the beta on a 64 bit machine. Mariano's sudo apt-get install ia32-libs got the VM running. That was easy enough to find by searching the archives, but it seems like it should be put where is is harder to miss. Any ideas as to where that should be? To test the VM, I tried the web beta as-is, and hit the Seaside "a service is already running..." bug. That got me thinking about things that might have been truncated/skipped due to the error. It did not take long to see that #send:toClassesNamedIn:with: is already protected with #on:do:. So what is all this about? The error block catches Exception, and I _think_ I was told that was a bad idea. That might be Dolphin-specific and not applicable here, but I thought it worth asking. Bill

On linux, when setting Display Depth to something else than 32, it is impossible to recongnize something on the screen. We did some research with Juan Vuletich on this and it sounds like an error on the VMnot the Smalltalk code We try it on Ubuntu 9.04, 64 bits. Is this a known bug? Hernan

Hi, we need to issue a post using https. We read about SWHTTPClient and CurlPlugIn. It sounds like SWHTTPClient does not support Https correctly (from what we read, is that right? ), so we tried CurlPlugIn but we could not make it work. We tried to download VMMaker from Universes to build the plug-in and it did not download (it gives a compile error). So, could somebody help us with this? Is somebody using CurlPlugIn on Linux 64 bits or 32 bits? Is there a place to download the binary code instead of having to build it? Or is it there another client to issue https requests? http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=1058 Can this two classes be merged (the share 80% or more than methods and several are identical, maybe were copied) and then (assuming that the BlockClosure will be the enduring): Smalltalk at: #BlockContext put: BlockClosure This way several packages that extend BlockContext will work in the new closure vm, for example Magma. What are the pros/cons of this change? If feasible, will be marked as Milestone-1.0?

Mariano, I have Pharo installed in a Windows XP SP3 machine and right button works (and wheel also which is the central button in my mouse). could you create a test case to ascertain the issue is epidemic and not result of specifics of your image?
