Ok, well you don' t need to run special software. You just need to use a non-optimized VM The *worst* case is turn 32bit mode on, and use Rosetta I've put a non-optimized VM in the experimental folder/COCOA via http://smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html called Squeak V5 SLOW VERSION FOR TESTING DO NOT USE FOR GENERAL USE.app.zip That gives you something that is like 8 or 10 times slower than normal. [Pharo-project] Help with Metacello configurations for external packages!!!

Hi folks! We started to create Metacello scripts to build Pharo images. In order to do this, we need the configuration of the external packages that are load in Pharo images. For those who know a little of Metacello, we need the ConfigurationOfXXX where XXX is the external project. The best is that the maintainer of a project create this class with the necessary information. You may know the packages that must to be loaded, in which order, which dependencies, what is Pharo specific, etc. If you didn't know anything about Metacello, don't worry. It is easy. You can read a good tutorial: http://code.google.com/p/metacello/wiki/Tutorial So, I will list the projects and if you think you can help us with a package, please let us know. The projects are: For the dev image: - RoelTyper - NewInspector - shout - rb - ob - EnhancedOB - OCompletion - Nile - autoMethodCat - PharoMorphicExtras - PharoSound For the web: - KomHttpServer - Seaside - slime - rsrss - magritte - pier - pieraddons I am not sure if we can do the web right now. I currently writing a code which looks like: a := some numeric expression + (someBoolean ifTrue: [1] ifFalse: [0]). And i get somewhat tired repeating the same pattern in multiple places. So, i thinking , maybe #asBit convenience method could be useful? True>>asBit ^ 1 False>>asBit ^ 0 so, then, in case of need like above, we could write much shorter expressions: a := some numeric expression + someBoolean asBit. And its much less error prone comparing to #ifTrue:ifFalse:, since i found its relatively easy to make a mess (swapping 1 with 0), especially, when you having negations in expression, because once you see: (someBoolean not ifTrue: [1] ifFalse: [0]) you always tempted to write it as: (someBoolean ifTrue: [0] ifFalse: [1]). or as: (someBoolean ifFalse: [1] ifTrue: [0]). but once you start playing with it, its very easy to shoot into own feet if you are not careful. But if we could add #asBit, then we could write: someBoolean not asBit which is much more: a) concise & cleaner b) error proof -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

Hi guys, I've noticed a different behavior relating the RBParseTreeSearcher between Pharo and Squeak, using AST-Core-lr.33, the following code: | rbMethodNode | rbMethodNode := RBParser parseMethod: 'test [ ]'. ( RBParseTreeSearcher new matches: '`{:node | node isVariable }' do:[: aNode : answer | answer add: aNode; yourself ] ) executeTree: rbMethodNode initialAnswer: Set new. gives an empty Set in Pharo-Core (#11072) and a Set(RBSequenceNode()) in Squeak 3.10.2 Does anybody know if I should use a different AST-Core version for Squeak? An alternative repository maybe? HernÃ¡n

Hi all, while looking at the different Rome versions I ran into a weird problem with Monticello in the latest core 1.1 image. Try looking at MCHttpRepository location: 'http://source.impara.de/Rome' user: '' password: '' with Pharo 1.0 and Pharo 1.1 In the latter version only a fraction of the repository shows up and that even changes back and forth when you hit refresh. Anyone else seeing this? Michael

I just can't seem to figure this out from the UITheme examples. Can anyone give me some general pointers on building a plain old Window? I know there isn't a UI builder, but how do you control the placement of the child controls you create in the window? For example, the following will create a StandardWindow and add a button to it (in the upper left corner). Do you control placement [of the button] with LayoutFrame? How do you use LayoutFrame? | win btnOk | win := StandardWindow new. btnOk := win newButtonFor: nil action: #ok getEnabled: nil label: 'Ok' help: nil. win addMorph: btnOk . win themeChanged; openInWorld.
