Multiple sorting helper

Hi, I have a collection of objects and I want to sort its contents by more than one attribute (including nil values), and I thought somebody might have already done this. Something like: sorter := MultipleSortCriteria new add: #lastName; add: [:each | each personalInfo age ] ascending: false. aCollection asSortedCollection: sorter. Add external package to metacello using versionner

I try to give Neo-Caching a shot in a project of mine. Neo-Caching does not have a metacello configuration. If I add the package via versionner the package is added but without repository information. That fails on loading? How to do? Bug? Norbert

[Tip] Image init scripts when working with PharoLauncher

PharoLauncher [1] allows you to work with many Pharo images. You can download fresh images, clone existing ones and with its access to the Pharo CI it allows you to easily reproduce errors in specific Pharo image versions. I REALLY like this tool when working with Pharo. There is a customizable hardware key on my laptop that I can just press to open PharoLauncher, manage and launch the images and dive into the world of Pharo. To optimize my Pharo "easy access workflows" further I wanted all the images that I started with PharoLauncher: - to share a common metacello repository cache (where all the mcz are stored independent from image location) for faster loading - to have the possibility to preset the Squeaksource, SS3 and STHub password already - to set my authors name All this is already explained in Marianos blog posts [2] and [3] and the PharoEnterprise book [4]. Nonetheless I would like to share the script that I personally use. Maybe (in an adopted version) it is usefull for other PharoLauncher users as well: ===================================================================== COMMON SETTINGS FOR ALL PHARO IMAGES WHEN STARTED USING PHAROLAUNCHER ===================================================================== Open any Pharo 3.0/4.0 image and execute StartupPreferencesLoader preferencesGeneralFolder fullName in a workspace to find out the common preferences folder on your local machine. You can put a Smalltalk script into this folder, for instance "initAllImages.st" that is evaluated each time an image runs. Tree/Outliners of playgrounds, markdown inside comments and some quick medium size dreams for Pharo/Smalltalk

Hi, As I said, I have trying to find my way to keep Pharo relevant in my computing experience. Most of it happens on IPython/web2py for practical/aesthetic reasons, but I think that things with Roassal, Moose and Pharo are falling into place with data Narratives and visualization (on [1] and [2] I have writing some examples/details). For the moment I'm reading/learning with Deep Into Pharo and the chapter on Glamour (which by the way is a really good book) and after I finished with the examples in the doc, I would like to start trying to write my own outliner. The first idea that comes to mind is using STON for storage nodes and tree information, so I can interchange it with the flatland files world and keep it readable. Sounds that reasonable? The second thing I would like to do is to add pandoc's markdown inside comments, but I don't like the syntax of comments in Smalltalk because single quotes are fairly easy to find in light markup language like markdown. Is difficult to change it to create something more like python (with """) or Lua (with -[]- )? The last thing I would like to quick mention that I think that there is a place for a light/live Open Notebook environment for Open/Garage Science and Data Visualization made in Pharo Smalltalk and Trees/Outliners of Playgrounds could be the emergent way to explore that space and I would like to help with that, even being a newbie. I think that is a place I can be comfortable and write/teach about in my blog and local hackerspace, so any idea or guidance about how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. What are you using to do jobs on the commandline. I'm sick of doing bash and sed,perl,jq,... stuff. What would be the quickest start when using a normal image? And what if I want to give coral a start. Does it work in 3.0? Best place to load stuff from? thanks, Norbert

Hi, I have the following problem when i try to export a view into a png file. I use a RTMapBuilder as an example: b := RTMapBuilder new. b countries: RTMapBuilder countries. b view canvas buildMorph *extent: view view canvas camera encompassingRectangle extent ;* exportAsPNG. if i don't specify the rectangle extent (bold line), i can export without problem but i cant see the complete image. on the other hand, if a specify the rectangle extent, an error occurs. see both examples: 1) without extent <http://forum.world.st/file/n4767944/prueba2.png> 2) with extent <http://forum.world.st/file/n4767944/prueba.png> Anyone knows what is happenning?? If you use a shared package cache, you should be aware of two potential issues: - directories with a large number of files can get slow; - Metacello configurations might load different versions of packages than you'd expect Stephan

Recommended Pharo image updating and Metacello commit policy

Having ~month old pharo image I was wondering what is the recommended way of updating it. Do I just delete everything and download a fresh one every so often (daily?), do I load new changes through Monticello? Does that upgrade the VM though? If the former what about local code I wrote but I don't want to loose or haven't completely finished? Is it possible to export workspace content and load it into fresh image? Do I just create local repository and commit there and once I am satisfied with the results I push them up (to STHub/wherever)? Or should I always push to remote repo even if the commits break the package (I would assume that should be semi-guarded by creating ConfigurationOfMyProject)? I am used to Git and I still can't wrap my head around this Monticello thing. :( Thanks, Peter
