Externally signalling pharo VM for shutdown

Is there a way I can externally signal a running pharo-vm in order to request a shutdown equivalent to clicking on the close icon? I'd like to externally manage the start/stop of a Pharo image, but because the image can be used during development, I'd like to provide the user with a confirmation dialog instead of simply killing the process. Hi all, This mail will have two parts, a small first one where I share my advances and little context on the project and the second one, with details where I made specific questions regarding concepts and code and how to make progress. I hope to be fluid and proper balanced and interesting enough to get feedback soon. Context ======= I have made a small video at [1] showing my progress on Grafoscopio[2], a tool for the creation of interactive notebooks for open/citizen/garage science and research (for a better view I recommend to see the video in full screen mode). As you can see, I have a complete outline of the Agile Visualization book stored as a single "ston document" [3], that can be exported to pandoc's markdown [4] and from there to LaTeX, pdf, html, doc, etc. It can contain special tagged nodes and the view and behaviour of them change accordingly to the tag. In the video a node tagged as code is showed as an interactive playground where you can execute an explore the objects deeper. My problem is that this kind of special nodes are not saved, as happens with default nodes and the reason is that the special view (which is a sub-browser) is not wired properly to the rest of the browser and that's why I get a nill value after revisiting the code node in the video. When a node in tree at the left is selected, it shows the contents of the selected tree. ii. If something changes in the node content at the right, the changes are automatically updated. iii. If a node is tagged in a special way, a custom browser is called. >I always found it strange what effect loading Glorp had on an image, blowing it up. Looks like it is really an effect of the Glorp code. Maybe because it was initially exported from VW and then imported into Squeak/Pharo. I always thought slow loading is because of this or the long license texts in the classes. At least I had similar issues when I loaded the "Glorp-EstebanMaringolo.92" from October 2014. I was not able to browse diffs, etc. when I wanted to clean up. Then I commited "Glorp-TorstenBergmann.93" without real changes and things started to stabilize. At least I was able to browse the diffs afterwards and could refactor a little bit with Glorp-TorstenBergmann.94. Bye T.

How to send messages to an object.

Hi, Suppose I do: Morph new openInWorld and then: EllipseMorph new openInWorld without referencing them to a variable. How do I access those objects? Since the only thing I know is that is a "a Morph(428605440)" and a "an EllipseMorph(448004096)" If I want to Morph(428605440) addMorph: EllipseMorph(448004096) How do I achieve this? Canvas Transform Goes Haywire if Scaled

The following works as I expect: morph := Morph new topLeft: 200@400; openInWorld. outputRect := morph fullBounds. canvas := Display defaultCanvasClass extent: outputRect extent depth: Display depth. scale := 1. t := MorphicTransform offset: outputRect topLeft angle: 0 scale: scale. clipRect := outputRect translateBy: outputRect topLeft negated. canvas transformBy: t clippingTo: clipRect during: [ :aCanvas | aCanvas fullDrawMorph: morph ]. canvas form asMorph openInWindow. "morph delete." but if I change scale even a little bit (e.g. 0.95), things quickly go south. Check out scale = 1 vs scale = 0.95 below: <http://forum.world.st/file/n4803830/Screenshot_2015-02-05_00.png> Obviously they differ by more than I expected. If I change scale to 0.5, the morph disappears from view in the canvas completely. I had both translation and scale working in a spike by translating with FormCanvas>>#translateBy:during: and then magifying with "canvas form magnifyBy: 0.5", but I want to do this in my morph's drawing method, so I want to do both with the canvas.
