Hi, We are starting a project here which involves executing scripts in a (remote) CentOS HPC environment I have built. The stack is going to be Pharo + Seaside + QCMagritte + Voyage. The bash scripts could take a long time to finish, besides they are in beta state so I want to monitor a RT log of what's happening. Like this solution: http://pipeup.io/ Do we have something like that in Pharo? I read Zinc/Swazoo supports web sockets but I would like to read experiences or recommendations (links?). Anyhow, I do find myself less and less engaged with Smalltalk as I am too busy with other things. I reckon ideally it should be someone who is open to all Smalltalk dialects as the idea of world.st was to inform the world about every Smalltalk flavour. The administration doesn't require a lot of effort really. The website is at the moment a simple Google Site and all forums use Nabble and the DNS record are now directly with nic.st. Sean already kindly assists in keeping the Nabble forums clean of spammers but I would now like to hand over all admin duties completely. The world.st domain name is kindly sponsored by ESUG, so it doesn't cost anything to run really. I was recently forced to change DNS server for the second time since the start as there were some issues. Paul just kindly notified me that there are once again some issues with the web presence of world.st. Soo, candidates? Connecting Ephemeric Cloud instances to other cloud provides (like Digital Ocean)

Hello, Good news everyone! :) Today I have successfully connected an application published in Ephemeric Cloud to a MongoDB hosted at Digital Ocean! http://eph-f2e2bcac.swarm.pharocloud.com/todo It became possible due to a stunnel support implemented in Ephemeric Cloud runtime â the utility allows to create secure tunnels between applications. Thus the communication between an ephemeric instance and a droplet is encrypted and safe. Configuration is extremely simple â just put a stunnel.conf and the certificate files to your Image archive before publishing it. This approach is universal and it allows to connect Pharo Images to any service providers or dedicated servers. Therefore Ephemeric cloud becomes more than just Pharocloud but an universal tool to develop and publish Pharo web applications. Another good thing is that it has a free tier :) Please try it out and tell me what you think. For example, I should never do a git pull within a xterm command, because the image will not be sync. Having a look at Git+Pharo

Hi, today I wanted to have a look at how git integrates with Pharo. This is what I found (mostly done by Thierry Goubier, thank you very much) and what I didn't find: - there is some documentation here: https://ci.inria.fr/pharo-contribution/view/Books/job/PharoBookWorkInProgre… But this is largely unfinished material. I contributed by adding a few things here and there but not much. If you have some experience, please share it there (https://github.com/SquareBracketAssociates/PharoInProgress) Missing things include: - a discussion about which process to follow in which conditions (should I use GitFileTree or FileTree?) - a discussion about moving a smalltalkhub repository to git while preserving history - a discussion on how to write Metacello configurations for a project on git and for a project which depends on a project on git. - there is a nice git merge driver (https://github.com/ThierryGoubier/GitFileTree-MergeDriver) It seems to work fine. I sent 3 minor pull requests. - a list of tools missing before everyone uses git. For example: - A tool to resolve merge conflicts in Pharo. Observing changes of regular attributes

Hi, is there a mechanism for observing a change of regular variables? Normally I would use ValueHolder (or fire announcements manually), but this assumes I can change the code. For example imagine a method of someone else's package ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FAMIXNamedEntity>>name: aString name := aString ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I could simply override the method, but that's very brittle since if I were to update the package it would load the "unmodified" version. Can I somehow overload the assignment operator? Can I augment methods? Is this even possible? Thanks, Peter

[ANN] new catalog command line handler

Hi, This functionality is in fact in Pharo 5 since a couple of months (I added it during ESUG), but I forget to send the ANN, then probably people does not know it and then is not using it. This is a catalog command line handler to prepare your images from command line. For example, if I want an image with Seaside3: ./pharo Pharo.image get Seaside3 or if you want a version: ./pharo Pharo.image get Seaside3 âversion=3.1.2 since this tool is part of catalog, just catalog projects are availableâ¦ but I find it very useful for prepare my images (and a lot less verbose than the config command line who is still available for non-catalog projects) cheers, Esteban
