I have finally given up on trying to sort this out. Under both Windows Server 2012 and Windows 10 my Pharo image just exits leaving nothing, not even a crash file. Hence, I have fixed my MacBookAir so that it stays alive with the lid down and I am now using that as my Seaside server. It has been up for the last 4 days so it seems that this is a Windows only problem and (hopefully) not my code. In passing, I am a high-level programmer in Pharo in that I do not use any special calls or processes. Davids Totally `Objects

Comparing source code declarations with #=

Hi, I want to compare Pharo (8) source code definitions. One source is already "filed in" the image and the other source is in a .st file in chunk format (the result of a file out). I've attached in this mail an example for reproducibility. In my search for a simple equality operator, I found that MCSnapshot(s) understand #= so it could be used like this: | imageSnapshot fileSnapshot | 'MySampleClass.st' asFileReference fileIn. imageSnapshot := (RPackageOrganizer default packageOf: MySampleClass) mcPackage snapshot. fileSnapshot := (MCStReader on: 'MySampleClass.st' asFileReference readStream) snapshot. imageSnapshot = fileSnapshot. But to my surprise, the file snapshot from MCStReader is not reading the class definitions, so comparing them should answer <true> (assuming nothing has been modified) but it always returns <false>. I've also seen that both Ring chunk importers do not read methods. (RingChunkImporter fromStream: 'MySampleClass.st' asFileReference readStream) packages collect: #allMethods. (RGChunkImporter fromStream: 'MySampleClass.st' asFileReference readStream) packages collect: #allMethods. The only "solution" I've found so far is to read into CodeChunk's and then implement the #= CodeImporter chunksFromFileNamed: 'MySampleClass.st'. But I don't like it and also I think there should be a clever way to compare source between image and .st declarations. Any ideas? HernÃ¡n

Segfault with ZnClient and https

Hi, I have trouble with latest Fedora 33, plain installation and Pharo 8.0 stable, 64 bit. When I try a ZnClient new url: 'https://something..'; get. The image segfaults. Last lines from log are: primitiveSSL:setStringProperty:toValue: atAllPut: atAllPut: primitiveSSL:connect:startingAt:count:into: stack page bytes 8192 available headroom 5576 minimum unused headroom 5952 --- It seems libssl and libcrypto is bundled togheter with Pharo, looks like version 1.0.0. I then try to compile openssl with 1.0.0-stable which I build myself, but when replacing the Pharo-libs with my own I get the message that I am using a too old tls-version error. I am a little confused on what is happening here. Do anyone have a clue? Help Needed: Looking for projects to use in a study of transforming deprecations

Hello, I need your help to recommend some projects that I can use in my study of transforming deprecations. As many of you know, Pharo supports a very powerful concept of "transforming" deprecations. You can deprecate a method, providing a transformation rule. Then when a client application calls the deprecated method, the call-site will be automatically rewritten to use the new API. Here is an example of a transforming deprecation: Collection >> includesAllOf: values self deprecated: âUse #includesAll: insteadâ transformWith: â`@rec includesAllOf: `@argâ -> â`@rec includesAll: `@argâ. ^ self includesAll: values You can read more about transforming deprecations in my blog post: https://blog.oleks.fr/deprewriter I am working on a tool that can analyse the commit history of a project and recommend deprecations and transformation rules that can be inserted before the release. It works like this: 1. Collect all commits between two releases of a project 2. Mine those commits to identify method call replacements (deletions and additions) that happen frequently 3. Infer the mapping between the methods of the old and new API 4. Recommend deprecations and generate transformation rules I have validated my approach on Pharo, Moose, Pillar, Famix, and DataFrame projects. Now I am looking for other projects that could benefit from recommended deprecations and could be used in my study. *Required:* - open source project with accessible commit history (e.g. public git repository) - written in Pharo (although if you know projects in other languages that could be interesting for my study, please let me know about them as well) *Prefered:* - ongoing development - multiple releases - has users (other projects that depend on it) If you have some projects in mind, please let me know about them! Postgres P3 Driver in seaside/web apps - strategy for "prepare:"

Hi using the P3 Postgres driver what is the optimised way of using the following in a seaside/web application statement := client prepare: ... statement execute: statement close. Sven readme on the drivers page "prepared statements ... need to be closed, prepared statement exist ... single session / connection ..." Typically in a desktop app I would fire the "prepare" statements(s) once when open the particular UI / window (say typically 2 or 3 statements in a UI) and then "close" when I exit How does this work in a multi-tabbed browser app lets say I open a tab with a particular UI and fire the "prepare" statement now what if the tab idles for too long - and then i press send/save.
