NeoJSON mapping question

Hi, How to set a path to JSON value in the mapping definition ? I mean i have a simple object with and instance variable but the value of this inst var is deep inside the JSON. mapping mapInstVar: #locator to: 'locator'. This fail because 'locator' is not in the first JSON level. Is possible to do something like: mapping mapInstVar: #locator to: 'booking.vars.locator'. I already tried and fail. The confusing state of SUnit

Forgive me father, for I have sinnedâ¦ but when I try to right good tests, that fail in a way I can understand them it seems that SUnit doesnât want to help meâ¦ Maybe I am missing something, but in 2019 it should be easy to write tests - particularly when we want people to contribute to adding more? So when I want to right a test to assure that Iâve thrown an exception with the right message, why is it so hard (in the core image)? Am I missing something obvious? My example model is supposed to throw a DomainException with a message indicating that the strings :are of different lengthsâ - I search Sunit and hit: #should: raise: whoseDescriptionDoesNotInclude: description: Awesome, so it fails - but does it make it easy to know what damn string I gotâ¦.. nooooo that would be too easy? Its almost impossible to easily see what happened the way it works. Instead I have to write: self should: [ hammingCalculator distanceStrand1: 'AATG' strand2: 'AAA' ] raise: DomainError withExceptionDo: [ :ex | self assert: ex messageText equals: 'left and right strands must be of equal length' ]. And god forbid if I want to just ensure that the beginning of my error message is correct? Why do we make this so hard? I know we donât want to pollute the image, but testing is important, it should be easy for obvious cases and it should be more built in and less obscure. Is there something built in that makes this easier? Do I really have to load in more libraries for the easy cases? Tim

[Parsing XML] Error calling Shout

Hi, all. I am currently using the AWS S3 plugin to get a list of buckets available. This call sends back a pile of XML.. The XML is coming back valid, but I am getting back something like: XMLDocumentHighlightDefaults errorâ¦. and inside this error, SHTextStylerST80 new <- where ânewâ is being sent to nil.. It looks like SHTextStylerST80 is part of the Shout package, but I cannot get shout to install on 7.01.. anyone have any ideas? Windows 64bit, long filename issue but after a second load, how to categorise and report this?

We noticed a weird problem when testing the pharo exercism project. When loading on Windows10 in a fresh 64bit image with the following evaluate in the playground: Metacello new baseline: 'Exercism'; repository: 'github://exercism/pharo-smalltalk:master/dev/src'; load. The project seemed to load correctly (but we seemed to hit an issue with an http submit giving a 404 error - which weirdly works in 32bit and OSX 64/32). Anyway - the real question here is that when trying to reproduce this in a second fresh 64bit image 2 users now have reported getting the long filename error: LGit_GIT_EEXISTS: Failed to stat file 'C:/Users/sam/Documents/Pharo/images/exercism-test-run-7.0-32...stance/testRaiseUnexpectedMessageWhenTooMuchMessages.st': The filename or extension is too long. And the second user got the same but with a different filename: ruleRBUtlitiesMethodsRuleV1FalsePositve.st I know there is a long standing problem with Windows and file path lengths - but why would it work the first time and then subsequently fail in fresh installs? Is something being cached on windows that isnât on other platforms? (Writing this - Iâm wondering if there is that shared pharo Iceberg setting for Share repos that might be implicated?) Also - given Exercism is in Tonel format and those files arenât in exercism, and in fact Iâm struggling to find where they are defined (my images donât have them) - there is something very weird going on. I wonder if we have another error that is masking all of this? Ultimately my question is - where is the Pharo issue that is tracking this problem? Iâve seen it mentioned lots of times here, but canât see anything in the issues that I can tack the above onto? What does the Package and Sub-Package comment do?

Hi - I notice that you can sort of put comments on packages - but Iâm not sure if this is working or if its supposed to work? When I type something it seems to create and extra Manifest tag, and then the comment that I type seems to be the same for the package and all of its sub tags? Is this a work in progress? Should Calypso even show a comment for the tags (or is it read only for them - as its the parent). Iâm just not clear on what it does, and whether I can programmatically add stuff to it or not? (I was thinking for exercism to store exercise information there - but maybe I will stick to the test class comment) Tim

Pharo Launcher update installation issues

instantiate Sparta canvas?

canvas := SpartaCanvas extent: 400@250 This fails even though the documentation says: ''I am an abstract class and should not be instantiated. However, the best way to create an instance of sparta canvas is to send extent: message.'' !! Example: Create an empty canvas of size 400@250: [[[language=smalltalk canvas := SpartaCanvas extent: 400@250. ]]] So, how do instantiate and display a Sparta canvas? Where can I find good documentation about Sparta? Thanks. David

How to test a new Iceberg baseline?

How does one go about testing an Iceberg/metacello baseline? Two parts to this actually - I want to check one under my control - and am wondering if there is a lint checker or some way to tell me what it will load (without having to check it in and try. Or if you do this - can you test loading from a branch? Similarly - if I want to try improving a baseline in another project - is there an easy way to do this (in this case, I canât really check it in - or I suppose I can fork all the dependencies and put them all in branches - but then how do convince each part of the chain to load from my forkâ¦ this sounds like a world of pain). So any tips? Tim

Embedding object properties in NeoJSON mappings

Hi all (again), As part of writing the port (and adaptation to use Zinc and NeoJSON), a CouchDB JSON-REST API, now I find something I don't know how to solve using NeoJSON mappings. All objects you store in CouchDB at a particular URI are saved as "Documents", so if you save a dictionary with keys "name", "height", "c" to "/people/1234" , when you query "people/1234" you get the keys of the saved dictionary PLUS to extra keys called _id and _rev. Then when you query (GET) back the document you get a JSON like this: {"_id": ..., "_rev": ..., "name": ..., "height":...,} My Idea is that I can wrap any object serializable as JSON within aDocument, but then if I define CouchDocument class>>#neoJsonMapping: mapper as: mapper for: self do: [ :mapping | mapping mapAccessor: #id to: '_id'. mapping mapAccessor: #revision to: '_rev'. mapping mapAccessor: #class to: '_class' ]. I have no way to "flatten"/"merge" anObject within aDocument. I would expect something like mapper for: self do: [ :mapping | mapping mapAccessor: #id to: '_id'. mapping mapAccessor: #revision to: '_rev'. mapping mapAccessor: #class to: '_class' mapping embed: [:object | object whatToEmbed] ]. Of course this is awkward, because if I need to read it back, the "extraction" of the embeded properties needs to know which belongs to which and more importantly , what to instantiate! Of course I can do it manually without using NeoJSON (It's already being done [1]) , but I like when different libraries things fit naturally together :) Am I stretching it too much? :) Regards, [1] Currently the writing is done manually and the refresh (which is also a GET) does the following: CouchDocument>>#refresh " Update this Document to the latest revision " | response | response := self information. "response is a Dictionary" revision := response at: '_rev'. object := response couchToObject. ^response And here happens the magic, it searchs for a "_class" key which if present will use to instantiate the object "wrapped" by the document. Dictionary>>couchToObject | class object | self removeKey: '_id' ifAbsent: []. self removeKey: '_rev' ifAbsent: []. self keysAndValuesDo: [:key :value | self at: key put: value couchToObject]. class := (self at: '_class' ifAbsent: [^self]) asSymbol asClass. object := class basicNew. object jsonInstanceVariableNames keysAndValuesDo: [:index :key | self at: key ifPresent: [:value | object instVarAt: index put: value]]. ^object #jsonInstanceVariableNames is another level of "mapping" here, that defined what to map from the Document response. OmniBase was pretty cool even transactional !!! What are you using ? Streams for FileReference in Pharo 7

Hello everyone I am trying to use Pharo 7 for my project and I noticed that most of my streams related code does not work anymore. Reason is that API for streams received from writeStream of FileReference changed and I think it changed for the worse in my case, because << does not properly handle any other objects than strings anymore. In both Pharo 6 and 7 I can write String streamContents: [ :s | s << 'hello' << 42 << $! ]. and get 'hello42!'. I can write in Pharo 6 but cannot in Pharo 7 'hello.txt' asFileReference writeStreamDo: [ :s | s << 'hello' << 42 << $! ] In Pharo 6, I get same result in both examples (written to the file in second case of course), but in Pharo 7, the second example results in exception because << does not work with anything other than strings, so it seems I have to manually convert everything to strings. This change to streams seems to me like a setback for 2 reasons: 1) API amongst streams is no longer consistent in this case 2) streams for files lost useful functionality and to make my project compatible with Pharo 7, I have to make lots of effort to make my code uglier and longer I would like to ask for the reason of this change and whether is there anything that can be done with it. Iliad & disbled JS

Hi, has support for disabled JavaScript been removed from Iliad? When I do $ curl http://localhost:9999/examples/counters I get [...] <h1>0</h1><a href="javascript:{}" onclick="iliad.evaluateAction("/examples/counters?_session=e333771f-db3e-0d00-bc9a-e623066cc382&_action=10073&_state=bb37771f");">++</a> [...] So it works only with JS enabled. It would be nice to be able to make requests from non-JS-capable clients such as ZnEasy for testing purposes. Can I re-enable it? -- Siemen

Partition/Sync ready databases for Pharo?

I have the requirement that an app that I'm prospecting must be able to work offline and synchronize changes once the connection is restored. I want to avoid having to write "sync" logic manually. Is anybody using Pharo with a database that supports automatic synchronization (replicas?) like the one provided by Firebase (Realtime Sync or Firestore)? I rather use PostgreSQL/SQLite locally and sync with a "central" DB, because I'm familiar with SQL/RDBMS, but I'm open to options. Regards, Esteban A. Maringolo

Running pharo in daemon mode

Hey, all.. I found my issue.. I need to be running in daemon mode.. i was running with &, but as soon as my connection lets go, the app dies.. I tried using daemon tools, but it looks like the site stays up for one second, and a new PID is generated.. Anyone have any hints on how people are doing this lately? Iceberg Custom SSH Keys

Hi, Does Iceberg support a pair of key generated with PuTTY as RSA ? I can Push local changes with TortoiseGit client. But inside Pharo i get "Iceberg Authentication Error" when doing a Push.
